Ugh. Maruchan is about one step up from Lipton's. ugh Ugh Ugh. :disgust: The only ramen I eat anymore are Korean brands. Nong Shim Neoguri, especially. Sapporo Ichiban isn't too bad, either, or Maggi (from Malaysia).

OK.. I've "fixed" this, in a way. I tried a non-bootable drive on the first motherboard IDE channel - that didn't work. What finally fixed it was replacing the Ultra66 with a (Maxtor) Ultra100. I think the problem was that my Ultra66 had a really old BIOS (1.10). It didn't allow me...

Actually, what's more likely is that some naughty feller's been spoofing mail. It's ridiculously easy to make mail look like it came from Staples or anyone else. Look at the full headers of the message, and find out where it REALLY came from. If it came from staples.com, it wasn't forged...

100 pack 80 min cd-r for $7.44 total, no MIR, no PM

I ordered 40 soft jewel cases, and the free CDRs. I must say, that's an excellent price on the jewel cases. Backordered, though, 4 weeks. Total was only $13 or so.

Recommendation on a 10/100 PC Card

I've never had problems with Ethernet cards going bad, and I've never had one that didn't work (other than a really old 3C503). My latest one was a SMC EZNet 10/100 that I got from buy.com for all of $10. It was the cheapest one there. I did have to get drivers from SMC, though.. Couldn't...

Right, that's what I did. Actually, the OS was already installed on the drive for a while. I added the card, and loaded the drivers (the ones from the web page). Then I moved the drive. There's something I read on the ars-technica forum that might help: 1) Set "SCSI" as a boot...

Yup.. A lot of the major brand stuff is actually Ritek. The "Made in Taiwan" TDK 100 spindles from buy.com, the 100 spindle Samsungs, the 50 spindle IBMs at Staples..

Until OSX is out, Mac memory management and multitasking is about where Windows 3.1 was in 1991. Worse, even - it can't allocate RAM dynamically. The GUI isn't anything to write about, either. The equivalent to minimizing windows leaves these freaky looking bars all over the screen.

Common wisdom has it that Taiyo Yuden, TDK, Ricoh and Kodak = good, while CMC, Ritek, Gigastorage = bad. I must say, my writer is very omnivorous - it burns everything I put in it. But when people say "quality", most people are talking about how long the disks will last once written...

Not a particularly good price. I've gotten spindles of 50 for $5 from Staples. This week, spindles of 30 TDK are free after rebate from Circuit City, and last week I actually came out ahead $5 ($10 for 30 Mr. Data disks, $15 in rebates!). Buy.com had TDKs last week 100 for $10 (after rebate)...
