usb hard drive problem

Hi, I have this usb harddrive, it used to work when i directly plugged it into my usb ports on the computer. now it'll only work if i plug it into a hub *but* the hub is plugged into the computer... so it won't work when plugged into the computer, but it will work when plugged into a...

reseller ratings only has entry on them.... so don't know anything about merchant reliability. also linksys != cisco. linksys was bought out by cisco, but linksys quality/relibabity hardly equals cisco's quality/relibabilty as of yet.

laptop nic keeps cutting out

i recently reinstalled on my dell 8100 with the 3com mini pci nic. everything works fine execpt that when i d/l stuff. the nic cuts out. at first i had the "allow pc to turn off nic to save power" checked, andi when i unchecked it. i started working again. however, after a few mins. it cut...

Which wireless card for (really) old laptop?

you should still be able to use the card. maybe it's not configured properly. i doubt that there's a chip on the card that checks the proc speed and turns off if it's under 300mhz. system requirements usually don't mean a thing.

System won't boot...CPU fried?

you have everthing unplugged right? like keyboard, mouse etc. check for any metal touching the case. make sure there's no path to ground from the mobo. if that doesn't fix it, then it could be either ram, cpu, or mobo.

New CF reader (USB) and now safely remove hardware icon on all the time

ya, with any kind of plug n play usb stuff that adds anotehr hd will do that. windows has to mount the hd and since it's supposed to be plug n play. you can't just unplug it....... but it won't damage the component. to be on the safe side just use the "stop" whenever u want to unplug it.

acceptable temperature range for motherboard & cpu

oh and if u have a amd proc their rated to 90 celsisus and that's not a lie. i bought a xp2100+ and used the crappy stock hsf and i reached temps of 85 C and it started crashing at 88C

there are different temp readings with different mobos. most mobo's have a "case" temperature which is a sensor away from the cpu. then there's the "surface" temperature which is the air surrounding the cpu. and finally the "core" temperature the temperature on the underside of the processor...

hooking up two computers to transfer data

u need crossover cable. and just set one computer's ip to 192.168.0.1 and the other to .2 and you'll be fine.

HELP: Problem with Switch

most dorms use the rj11 (phone line) to the rj45(ethernet). if the above post doesn't fix ur problem . maybe the switch you bought can only do 100mbps while your dorm is running a 10 mbps.

well, i think i know how u solved it with wc3. with wc3, it allows you to select which port you run on. so if you all have different ports and you have the router to forward each port accordingly, it'll all work out. also, are you two using the same cd key when playing starcraft? that...

well most wireless routers/ap's only support a certain number of clients. make sure you aren't over this number. other than that, there's not much else i can think of unless their just crappy cards.

WARNING: us bank automatically replacing all ATM cards with VISA check cards

dunno about other banks. but my bank, busey bank. treats the check card just like a credit card in terms of liability. so if i lose mine and i get cleaned out. all i would have to pay is the fee. i specifically asked the bank person about this when i opened my account so i'm not just guessing.
