Keep the Live, just uninstall Liveware and use the plain drivers for the Live. Also, disable SB16 emulation in device manager. It takes up 2 DMA channels.
That's what the LD switch does...
By the way, since we're talking about bios settings and the Pro2-A, I finally got over the instability problem in 3D games by using the A7 AGP driving value. Not a single crash in a week. The picture was a bit brighter (adjust with the monitor and it's fine)...
Thanks, I'll give that a try. What power management will then Windows use? APM? Will the system still turn itself off or will it revert to the manual turn off without APCI?
New bios won't help but you can try also disabling APCI in bios + setting power after failure to "off". That might help, unless you're using Win2K. Beware you might have to reinstall Windows though.
No, the new bios doesn't help. Lots of folks of have the cold boot problem do own an AMD approved PSU. Apparently, the Pro2A is fussy about the timing and will only work properly with certain PSU. If enough people bug MSI, they might resolve to adress this issue...
Your boot problem is well known among owners of a KT133 board. Look at the thread labeled
MSI K7T-Pro2-a spontaneously refuses to boot
and you'll get more info.
I can't understand how they could not be aware of the problem since I know of many people who contacted them about this issue. Since I've encountered about 35 people with this problem, that makes a lot of bad RAM/CPU! I must say though that I've seen this problem happen with other KT133 boards...
FloridaBoy3, the cold boot problem is the main topic of this thread. Read back all the posts and you'll notice you're off topic. The cold boot problem is not related to any drivers. It prevents the machine to boot every once in a while without having to hit reset.
I have the same problem as well. Tried different PSU and video cards without solving it. Apparently, the only solution that was found is to disable APCI in bios as well as setting "power after failure" to "off". Doesn't help people running Win2K though... Give it a try if you...
