What is going on? Im reading WAY too many people with idle freeze problems with 1st gen Ryzens

I have a 1600x and i had a 1600 the problem is with the DDR4 it is a bit finicky with 1st gen Ryzen, you want B-Die(Samsung) or A-Die(Hynix) single rank sticks, I had dual rank and it just randomly BSOD's even when running 2133/2400 while the sticks are rated for 3200. When it hangs it means it...

Yes I am aware of this but from a marketing perspective I can also understand why they would push their high-end products I have a rendering rig and a gaming rig, where my gaming rig is an Intel 8086k and my render rig has an AMD 1600X(also do NDI capture and NAS storage) Yeh but the CPU's cost...

a 244hz is better for my eyes?

Unless you are a really good PvP player you don't really need more then 100fps/100hz screen, I like my 144hz screen it is smoother with sniping but you need a good GPU to even reach that. 244hz I won't even consider for the simple fact you will notice no difference and it is more of a marketing...

if AMD and intel are so smart, why dont we have this?

Heat goes up yes, you could change that with fans but it would require more work from the fans thus more noise, wise to use rising hot air for airflow just works better. But if for some reason you want to change things up the heat shouldn't stop you either way.

Bought an 8086k when it was cheaper than an 8700K or a 9900K for overclocking it is a nice piece of silicon that does very well. Special CPU's can be worth it but only under certain circumstances.

BSOD means unstable OC, if your cooling was not good enough it would just thermal throttle. And 86C for small stock FFT's is just fine no game will ever stress your CPU that much, I reach 90C on small FFT's and custom on my OC but it does mid 80's in gaming and rendering. But if you are happy...

43 Was for the ringbus that is not the CPU, so forget that for now. Using the same volts set it to 44, boot, stress test, on pass go back to bios, dail in 45, boot, stress test, repeat increase until it fails. 9600K has a boost up to 4.6ghz, stock is 3.7Ghz just to make a note of that.

4.3 is very low clock speed on par with 1st gen Ryzen the chip should be able to reach 5.0ghz unless it is really bad then your talking 4.8ghz to 4.9ghz. Just dail in 50 on the core ration sync all cores and put in on manual 1.35 vcore and see if that boots, do some stress tests when it does...

Ringbus is not the CPU core ration that is the speed at the CPU components talk to each other, CPU core ratio is the Ghz overclock you want to achieve, ring bus does not offer much in terms of achieving more performance so my recommendation is to use 43 that is the stock speed. Manual input is...

The guide I linked in my previous reply is for the 8086k but on the Hero XI motherboard, you can follow the steps since the 8086k and 9***K are the same. The difference mainly will be the voltages needed for getting to a stable OC but the settings for the rest will remain exactly the same...

Yes i saw that XMP was not the problem, watchdog usually means the cpu runs out of step, I had this as well a couple of times when doing a overclock the clock was almost stable only needed a slight volt increase or I was too generous with the Rin BUS OC, running ringbus on 43 with boost is stable?

Do you have by any change another CPU that fits that socket? If that fails it must be the motherboard if it works it must be the CPU. I have the same motherboard but I am using an 8086k, here are some of my settings for overclocks...

Very interesting those are good numbers for an 8700k the overshoot is a bit weird though on load my Vcore dips slightly.

Did the same with the 8086k now it is running 5.3Ghz @ 1.41vcore under load it hits 85c llc7, wonder if you can post your vcore numbers for 5.0 to 5.* and llc I am just curious.

What wattage of PSU I need

EVGA and Seasonic give 10-year warranty on a good PSU, as far as the results take the highest number and add 100 wats so you can upgrade the GPU down the road. In your cause around either a 450 or 500 watt PSU would be fine.

The stock cooler is surprisingly good if you do not overclock on the bleeding edge that is. I would most certainly recommend giving it a go and see how you find the noise and cooling levels of the stock cooler. Then either keep the stock cooler if satisfied or snipe a good deal on an aftermarket...

First gen ryzen only use Hynix A-die and Samsung B-die up to 3200mhz, and make sure it is single rank and not dual rank. My 1600, 1600X both have issue's with the RAM i had to shop for a proper kit took me a while to find something that is actually working with Ryzen 1st gen.
