Need Advice - Video Capture Software

I just put together a new machine with an A-I-W card. I found some freebie video capture software and was successful in capturing the video off of a vidcam. The problem is that that 5 1/2 minutes was 4gb in size (AVI formatted)! There has to be other software that will compress these files...

Best corporate antivirus solution for server and desktops?

Make my vote the same for the same reason. That and McAfee always seemed to want to take all of the CPU time. You could seemingly only fix it by uninstalling and reinstalling the program. Even the SP1 which was supposed to fix that never did really seem to do so.

Utilities Needed for HDD & Memory

Best hhd utility I have worked with is GWSCAN from Gateway. Dos based utility that will give you specs of a hhd plus it can run tests on drive if you suspect it's faltering. Get GWSCAN here...

BSOD with Norton Client Firewall

Running Win2K SP3 with latest updates. If Norton runs long enough I get BSOD irq not less or equal in vsdatant.sys. I read that this happend in ZoneAlarm (I think) before and can also be caused by a W32.Gunsan worm, but I have checked with AV program and no viruses. I posted this in software...

Mcafee Virusscan vs. Norton Antivirus???

I would agree that the Corporate version, if you can get your hands on it, of Norton is superior to McAfee. I haven't used McAfee in awhile because alot of their av programs took up alot of cpu time. They came out with some patch that supposedly fixed that, but I never saw any results other...

Favorite HBO series besides the Sopranos

I enjoyed Band Of Brothers very much as well. So much so that I begged for the dvd set for Christmas! As for a regular series though my vote goes to The Wire. BTW: Does anyone know when it will start up again?

Most painless way to add on hard drive?

Partition Magic, based on the version will combine the two together (I believe) without you having to move anything off. Even if it doesn't, just cut and paste your 2nd partition to the new drive then use Partition Magic to combine the originally partitioned drives together. Hope this helps...

Who visited dial up BBS's in the '80's?

1st computer was a CoCo with 16K of memory, then upgraded to 32K. Cartridges, regular tv's for monitors, tape drives to load programs and a 300baud Volksmodem. I remember those days very well.

I got the same thing you mentioned to happen when I turned off using Word to edit my email addresses. Before, I used Word to edit email messages and that is when I could change the default location for adding attachments to whatever it was in Word. Don't know if you want to use it this way or...

If you open up Word and then Tools...Options...File Locations and change the option for the location of Documents. Only problem would be that when you do this it will change the default location when you open up Word as well. But it works...
