Floyd Landis wins the 2006 Tour de France

Not really. The last stage is for sprinters, who are all hours behind the general classification so there's no threat. None of the top three are going to risk their existing spots anyhow, plus they wouldn't have a chance at time bonuses against true sprinters like McEwen who are eager for a...

Floyd Landis wins the 2006 Tour de France

There's another Tour thread but this deserves a thread of its own. Floyd Landis has won the 2006 Tour de France after obliterating Pereiro in the last time trial to get a gain of nearly 1 minute. Since the last stage in Paris is reserved for sprinters and Pereiro got his initial lead...

what is the difference between regular rice and minute rice?

Just buy a Zojirushi cooker and be done with it. Rice comes out perfect everytime, not a single grain wasted to being burnt/dry/clumped. Essentially zero effort process.

Whatever happened to the sporty $14k japanese car

The 300zx was never 14k. The base level non-turbo '84 model was $16k. Figure in inflation and that number pushes 30k in today's dollars. Oh, and for that you got a car that could do a 1/4 mile in mid 16's -- impressive at the time but pitiful for a car that's supposed to be 'sporty' today.

    **Unofficial** Tour de France 2006

Wow! What a stage. Landis just won a stage all on his own from the beginning. Now only 30 seconds from taking the win, with a time trial to go (Landis' strength). BTW, today's stage blew away anything that Lance ever did, so if you aren't watching, you've missed out on a lot.

    Canker Sore Driving me crazy...

I've spent countless hours trying to find the answer as I'm a frequent canker sore sufferer: The only effective relief for canker sores is to use a pharmaceutical product called Debacterol. Don't bother running to your drug store because you wont find it there. You may be able to get it at...

You might want to look into a credit card chargeback. It's well documented from consumer reviews that Ghost does not do what it claims to do. Ghost is the biggest software scam on the market IMO.

    YACT: '97 Mazda Protege

From my experience, cars without tachs usually have the lowest base engine in them. That often means an engine that makes most of its power in the midband range with a rapid decline in power approaching maximum revs.

Is a MBA worth the time and money?

It all depends on your background. If you have a technical degree, an MBA can be very valuable because it teaches you business and strategy concepts that you never formally learned. That's valuable to an employer from a managerial aspect. The school doesn't even have to be a top ranked one...

    Had some 'road rage' today

That doesn't sound so bad. At least she had a passenger in there. I've seen as*hats in the HOV not only go slow but also they were the only person in the car -- that's a recipe for road rage for anyone.

Should my mom pay for this repair on her car, or buy a new one?

Brakes are wear items, so there's zero reason to even think of abandoning car just because of maintenance. But I agree that 400 is way too much. You can do the work yourself for a fraction of that.

Yea, but Landis is a solid climber. Like I said, unless he suffers more mechanicals, crashes, etc, he's a shoe-in for the win.

Thinking about starting a small computer business

Completely disagree. If you can't even read a balance sheet or produce pro forma statements, for instance, then you have a long way to go before trying to start up a business that has a remote chance of being successful. Otherwise, you're just throwing money away, wasting your life away.

Catalytic Converter - Safe to remove?

What do you mean by 'remove'? If you hollow it out (free if do yourself) your car is going to sound like crap, since the shell becomes a pipe organ resonance chamber (think of riced out hollow-sounding cars, that's what it will sound like). By doing it right, you have to have a test pipe...

Thinking about starting a small computer business

Suggest you work for someone in the business for a few years at least. Take business oriented classes at college, then come talk to us. As it is now, you would be committing suicide by trying to start your own business and expect it to be succesful at the same time.

What a great time trial stage! Aside from miracles, Levi will not get a podium position, looks very iffy Hincapie can win, and as long as there's no more mechanicals plaguing Landis at the worst possible times, the odds are very much in favor of him.

    College Orientations

I guess it depends on how large your college is. If it's huge and a generalized orientation then I'll say it's a waste of time -- most of the people you meet you're not even going to bump into again. Smaller colleges or orientations for specific majors is a different story.

    Canon S1 IS

I disagree, the quality is far more important. Wideangles by nature suffer from distortions noticeable on shooting architecture, and fringing at the corners at full wideangle setting. On a non-SLR it's tough to even find one that doesn't come out crappy. I am very happy with the Raynox; you...

I got the Raynox wideangle lens from lensmate for my S1. It's fantastic for wide angle, equivalent to about a 25mm, plus you still got enough power to zoom to 5-6x even with the lens attached. Unlike cheap ebay wide angle lenses, the Raynox wont give fishbowl distortions.

Can you use old boxes to ship stuff?

It's a good idea to mark off or use a sticker to cover any company logos. It's not unknown for boxes to be sorted without first looking at the address destination label. That could cause major delays in getting your package delivered or even misdelivered.

How much do Astronauts get paid?

With the hours they put in, they probably barely make minimum wage. I somehow don't think a single one of them are in it for the money though. Most of the scientists have Ph.D's so could easily be making many times what they are now at half the trouble. It's the honor of being a participant...
