Actually, both of us are, but he has that port opened up and it doesn't make any difference if I enable DMZ or not.

ftp question

I've been having problems connecting to a friends ftp host. I've got an SMC barricade router and I keep the firewall up. I'm running Windows 2000. He's set up the ftp port to 8021 instead of the standard port 21 for his own security reasons. When I try to connect to it, I get an invalid port...

forcing static ip

My cable ISP uses DHCP. I've installed a hardware router and set it up to renew the lease on the IP indefinately. I have yet to see my IP address change since doing that. You can renew the lease yourself, but it's tedious. I've heard of software that does it, but that's about it - I've only...

WinXP slamming, FUDs, GPL arguments... whatnot

These have been some really entertaining threads. I still think that this has a little to do with piracy and a lot to do with getting comsumers used to the idea of software-as-a-service. Afterall, who will be affected by this? Rank and file consumers? Not a chance - as has been said here...

Man dum MS has to do this. Well i think this will destory themselfs with Windows Product Activation on Windows XP.

The sad facts are these: MS wants to move to a subscription based distribution - their "software-as-a-service" business model. Manufacturers of systems, like Dell, Gateway, etc. will continue to do business with MS. The average computer buyer will want the latest and greatest and...

router recommendation?

I'm planning to get a router so I can use my cable modem with multiple computers. I have a dynamic IP and my ISP detects the MAC address on my NIC. Can anyone recommend a good router/switch that's reliable and "clones" the MAC address? I typically see Netgear RT314, LinkSys ?, DLink...

Installing WinMe on a Win2k system

Win 2K to Get XP registration

First, let me state that I, personally, don't see any reason to upgrade to XP. I have Win2k/Win Me (Linux shortly) installed. It's stable. My devices all work. My programs all run. And I have the third party utilities that add the functionality that XP will add to Win2k/Win Me. So, I doubt...

HELP!! How do I revert a ntfs partition back to fat 32?

I'm not certain, since I haven't tried it but you may be able to do it with Partition Magic v6.

Win2k problems and Boot Manager questions

Things have been going pretty well until recently. Problem 1: I have a dual boot system (Win2k/Win Me) and I'd like to change some of the defaults for the boot manager. I'm currently using the Win2k boot manager, but I can't find the boot.ini file. (I do have show hidden files enabled.)...

Looking for some Linux advice

Thanks for the help. I have read that YAST is pretty good at autodetection. (*trying not to convince myself that it's not PnP* :)) reiserfs? I've not heard of that. What is it? another filesystem? How do I go about doing that? (PM6 doesn't do it.) Thanks again.
