    Search AVS forums, someone there posted a link to download the ISO of the firmware. I tried and it didn't work (didn't recognize the disc) but I know it worked for some others.

    I'm this doesn't affect the ATI promotion at all. Since it's just a code to download it from Steam then I'm sure Valve can still make a custom sku for the ATI bundle. They probably just needed to add another product to justify a retail price of $50 and to differentiate it from the ATI bundle.

    Those are not converters, they are adapters. The DVI port on your video card also has analog pins on it. The adapter simply re-routes those pins to a VGA pinout. Those adapters only work for DVI to VGA, they don't work fo VGA to DVI.

    Digital is digital... all the HDTV cards do is convert the digital stream to MPEG2 so there's no encoding like there is on the analog cards. If all you're going to use if the analog portion I would get the 550. I've seen the 550 and 650 side by side and I can't see any improvement that...

    Umm.. no you can't. HDCP requires a digital path to the monitor, VGA won't work. HD-DVD discs that are protected requires HDCP to work correctly. Try installing the new AnyDVD HD beta and see if it works. That makes the HD-DVD appear unprotected so then it won't enforced the HDCP path.
