if i'm not mistaken, lsass is the win32 subsystem of nt/2k/xp. the kernel runs on a different model than win32, and this program executes all the win32 code. so it is rather important. u won't be able to kill it if you tried, it's a kernel process.
not only that, if you're using ntfs it uses the disk much more because it keeps logs of file updates and just about everything you do to the filesystem. that is normal for xp, 2k, and nt4.
same here. maybe symantec wasn't using an updated ntfs spec when it programmed ghost. btw, is 6.51 version 2001 or 2002? cuz 2002 is supposed to work with xp/ntfs but it doesn't for me. 2001 also quits but with a different error.
simply copy the i386 folder from the windows cd to the notebook drive and run winnt32.exe or winnt.exe, depending whether you are in dos or in windows when you are installing
they don't need to get rid of it... they just need to move it somewhere else and put a more useful button there. those windows keys and the right click key work pretty well... maybe microsoft can come up with another key for windows.
are you using the server capabilities for anything? if so, then don't. actually, just stick with win2k, it works just as well and in some cases better than xp. xp is like win me.... a downgrade for $99
solution to oe taking forever to load, shamelessly ripped off somewhere on the net:
For some users when they remove windows messenger or just disable it from starting up automatically they experience a great slow down when launching Outlook express. Users who experience such a slow down will...
well from my experience i kept win2k up for close to 2 months, actively playing games and running as a webserver. it's not the os that is unstable, it's just the stuff u install :)
try to see what variables are set in windows.... i have no idea how to do this in 9x/me but the %systemroot% thing works in the nt kernels. it might be %windir% or something in 9x.
or if you can see the drive in windows just right click and format it fat32. if u still have win2k or xp installed u can go into "computer management" and go to the disk manager panel and format it from there.
try o&o defrag. they have a free version that works great. but under nt/2k/xp it will always have some fragmentation left due to locked files (opened stuff such as programs) and filesystem structures (mft, etc)
i'm quite sure this has nothing to do with irq's... it's just that win 9x's kernel wants a floppy drive. in some bioses there is a way to report no floppy drive to windows, but it's not present in many bioses. i had long pauses and lockups when i took out my floppy till i switched to win2k...
no i don't think so. i believe the "powerpc" systems it is talking about are the ones from ibm (as/400, etc?) anyways, microsoft has discontinued support of ppc and i'm sure u're gonna give yourself a headache trying to find drivers for it.
logitech all the way... i've had 3 straight ms ie mice bust on me. got so annoyed i ebayed the last replacement they sent me and used the money for a logitech, and have been happy ever since.
well the seagate 1.0g that i got 5 years ago or so was a lemon. and the drive seagate sent me as a replacement was also a lemon. but i've heard that their drives are very good nowadays, and their scsi drives have always been good. whatever you do, avoid ibm nowadays because they have terrible...
just swap your pci cards around. there's interrupt pins, it might be documented in your manual or something. that's the way you changethe irqs your cards use. you have to physically move the card. just try to keep your graphics card by itself, and usually it's a good idea to keep the...
if you want to change my documents, right click on my documents and u can move it to another directory or drive or wherever u want. changing other things takes quite a bit more work :)
ipconfig DOES tell you your ip.
on the line saying "ip address"
or if you have the network connection icon on ur taskbar, double click on it and look at the support tab.
during xp/2k setup, use a answer file. for example, my answer file contains this:
[GuiUNattended]
ProfilesDir = D:\Users
this puts all the stuff normally under "documents and settings" in d:\users. just find the command switches you need to run to do this.
just copy the contents of the cd to a folder on your hard drive and install from there. it'll work fine. it does that for office 2000 and office xp on mine. it's weird but at least i can get it working.
amd and intel devote a lot more resources to their microprocessor divisions. via doesn't have the technology to make a great cpu without devoting lots of time and money to it. designing a good chip can take years, and via's business is focused on chipsets.
pppoe provides a dynamic ip. so, your ip will change every time you log in. static ip is good for being a server, while a bit less secure since attackers will know your ip address. for most purposes, dynamic ip will be fine unless you are web/ftp serving.
please back up your partition using norton ghost or drive image or something, and then reinstall windows. reinstallation cures almost all windows problems.
use fat32, for compatibility and speed. i'm assuming you're a home user, so you probably won't be needing the security features in ntfs. this way, you can access your win2k drive from win9x.
there's nothing that specifically duplicates its functions. however, if you go to control panel->administrative tools->computer management, you can do a lot and get most of the information you may need.
don't install win2k on a ntfs partition. there are advantages, but it creates all sorts of problems when your os bombs and you need to get your data back. win2k works fine with fat32.
hence SOLITAIRE :D
minumum specs i would recommend are:
duron/cel 500
tnt2
128mb ram
hard disk big enough to fit your games and apps (4+ gigs)
(this is pretty much the same as pliotronx said)
