  1. Reminder - Samuel Alito is a $#%%

Random thoughts - Just over half the votes went for Biden. Rounding off ridiculously to get to the point, let's say 80% of America is white. And let's the majority of the other 20% voted for Biden. It means something like 30 - 40% of the white vote was for Biden. Point is not the numbers...
  2. AMD Ryzen 3000 Builders Thread

X570 Asus board (and perhaps others soon if not already) has a recent BIOS update. https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/TUF-GAMING-X570-PLUS-WI-FI/HelpDesk_BIOS/
  3. AMD Ryzen 3000 Builders Thread

I had it running about 2 months ago and it caused my system to not "sleep" correctly - more often than not the system wouldn't turn back on. When I went back to the Windows plan it worked fine.
  4. AMD Ryzen 3000 Builders Thread

Optical audio cable? I have had them die over time as well. Probably from pushing the receiver too close to the wall and putting too sharp of a bend in it. Didn't show up as suddenly broken, but would seem to come and go at random.
  5. AMD Ryzen 3000 Builders Thread

Maybe a Windows update? I've had them break things in the past, perhaps once in a while they go the other way too?
  6. Question Airflow question with a DIY Cuboid Case

Swap the rear exhaust fan to be blowing in as well? Right now there is 1 intake and 3 exhausts. Seems imbalanced. What's the GPU closes to? Make sure it's got incoming air blowing at it. Don't forget PSU fan in this as well.
  7. AMD Ryzen 3000 Builders Thread

I had issues w/ the Ryzen power plan and shut-downs & sleeping. Went to the Windows plan and fixed it all.
  8. Question Best budget (under $300) X570 mobo for Ryzen 3600(X)? Now that initial prices have subsided.

X570 w/ 3900 and Gen 4 NVME. Spent a few nights trying everything I could read about (BIOS settings, unplugging other drives, etc.) to get it as fast as possible, and the lowest I ever achieved was about 15 seconds per the Windows Task Manager - roughly agrees with a stop watch as well. I'm back...
  9. Question Best budget (under $300) X570 mobo for Ryzen 3600(X)? Now that initial prices have subsided.

I guess I am happy with mine. I liked the 8 SATA ports instead of 6, and that I could use an M.2 w/ a heatsink and not get in the way of a video card. I'm not thrilled with 18 second boot times from it, even though I've tried every suggestion I've ever come across to reduce it. I suppose this...
  10. AMD Ryzen 3000 Builders Thread

^^ Nice, that's a good improvement! What kind of RPM do you run them at? I keep most of my fans around 800 or so, moving air but fairly silent.
  11. Internal Boeing emails on 737 max, "designed by clowns who in turn are supervised by monkeys"

I would want to know how many people think this way, and how many are the opposite - take their jobs seriously and would be heartbroken at the idea that they missed something that caused a crash. My guess is there's a lot of each at the company and even more in between that just go in and do a...
  12. Outlet or fridge problem?

That's actually a really good idea, to check the power cord and path into the frig, as well as inside it a bit too if you gain access. If you can narrow down times it's not running, maybe hit it with a multimeter and see if it's indeed getting power or not. It seems super common for the...
  13. Outlet or fridge problem?

Right, main circuit board, whatever. Mine is ~ 7 years old and has one. I guess perhaps not all do. It's not a motherboard exactly, no CPU and RAM, but it's quite the circuit board for sure. There's a lot of small bits and some kind of decision maker soldered onto it with a couple dozen leads.
  14. "But I am not hungry"

Yeah, this is why I can see the "damnit sit down and eat" thing. Mine won't be hungry for lunch, but sure enough in a half hour she's starving. She only wasn't hungry because she wanted to play more. So for OP's situation context would be important. There are times what he's (she's?) saying...
  15. Outlet or fridge problem?

Frig. Probably motherboard. Hope it's under warranty.
  16. "But I am not hungry"

Yeah, we do breakfast, lunch, dinner and perhaps a late snack for the adults if we're still up at 10PM since it's been a few hours since dinner already. Pacing meals throughout the day is good. I suppose everyone knows that. We do the schedule not for the sake of having a schedule, but because...
  17. AMD Ryzen 3000 Builders Thread

For the Ryzen I'd read a few times a statement from AMD regarding temperature, something to the extent that the temp monitoring programs themselves would trigger the CPU to bump its power and therefore heat and cause odd readings. I think it was CPU-Z that was recommended. If that gives any ideas.
  18. AMD Ryzen 3000 Builders Thread

Moving to 10 should be free w/ a valid 7 or 8 key. I have done this w/ 3 different computers in the last month and it worked in all cases. 2 of these moves were computers that got new SSD's in but otherwise were the same (a laptop and a desktop). Didn't have any issues whatsoever. These keys...
  19. AMD Ryzen 3000 Builders Thread

I have the same board. Under AI Tweaker, near the top, I told it what RAM I had (DDR4-3200 for me). You can scroll down to the bottom of that page to where's there's a little arrow for DRAM Timing Control, click it and open up more options. I didn't have much luck in there other than make the PC...
  20. Making DIY oil changes easier . . . are these products reliable, though?

If anyone goes for an extractor, please be sure to keep the important bits sealed up between uses, i.e. in a heavy plastic bag. If it's hanging out on a garage shelf for a few months collecting dirt and everything else, you should not even consider jamming it into the engine again. You might...
  21. "But I am not hungry"

Agreed, I've heard it as well, and it seems true - you can't control what goes into them or what comes out. You can do some things like limit snacks and be sure you set a somewhat consistent schedule, otherwise their own mysterious metabolism will set their being hungry or not.
  22. Question PC Won't Recognize My New SSD Drive

I actually just upgraded a Z77 board w/ a 3770k in it. I feel certain it's not an issue w/ the board. I agree it's a matter of formatting, etc. the drive for it to do what you want. Are you trying to move Windows over to it? That would be the best performance move. If so how are you going...
  23. Home gym setup for a small apartment

I like that idea of doing body weight stuff for a while as a test. I have a gym where I work and take classes there, and have been pretty happy w/ the workout I get just w/ a handfull of kettlebells and dumbbells. So if you do get some equipment, you might not even need a bench? Not for a...
  24. Question 280mm rad fan spacing

I have a Corsair case, w/ only holes. Takes their AIO coolers (I have one of those too). It's a few years old, slots are probably the current version of the holes, an improvement made over time. 2 x 120 cooler, H100i, uses holes you'd call 15mm apart. The holes for the 2 x 140 cooler are 20mm...
  25. hooking up water line to new fridge?

Also be sure you tighten any new parts against the valve already there, i.e. by having a wrench on the valve to hold it still. Don't just count on the existing pipe and joints to counter you. They'll probably hold up but again - just in case.
  26. Making DIY oil changes easier . . . are these products reliable, though?

I've considered one of these for years, but at like 2 changes a year I've just never pulled the trigger. I let the drain plug drop into the oil and fish it out later, it's not ideal but hasn't been a big enough issue to try and solve. That said it's on my mind again after reading this.
  27. hooking up water line to new fridge?

Looks like you have a cap, then a bushing, then threads behind that? Seems like there's teflon tape or pipe dope there. Turn water off of course - I'd go to the main supply even though you have a valve there, just in case. Remove the cap (and the bushing if there is one), and clean up the...
  28. Question Thumbdrive properties & boot type

If you run the Command prompt, then type in diskpart, then list disk you will see any drives on the system and a * next to any that are GPT. Look at the sizes of each so you can be sure to find the flash drive in question. Can't see a reason you can't copy to a smaller drive and still use but...
  29. Question Faster NVMe or faster memory?

The 2-in-1 looks to have a better CPU and GPU - bonus! But a soldered drive - ugh. Both have upsides and downsides. Does the 2-in-1 have any other drive sizes? Are you positive it's not replaceable? Any chance it has an open spot for another?
  30. AMD Ryzen 3000 Builders Thread

"Back in the day", i.e. a decade ago, boards not booting at all would often signal a CPU issue. Hoping this isn't the case for you but keep it in mind.
  31. Question Is AGESA 1.0.04 or 1.0.0.4AB coming to pre-X570 mobos at all?

This seems as good a place to ask as any - I've got a fairly slow (15-20 second) POST with an X570 Asus board. Tons of searching around seems that this is common. I did all the things like stock settings, a variety of changed settings, no USB or SATA plugged in, RAM timings, etc. Not looking for...
  32. Question Getting rid of unallocated hard drive space

The free AOMEI tool can do this. It's the one I use when I'm looking for more than what the Windows Disk Manager can handle. Just be sure it's not filled w/ something you don't know about. The AOMEI program will show you that as well. Perhaps not exactly what is on it, but if anything is on it...
  33. Question Can I Upgrade my Power Supply?

When I just built a new rig for the first time in ~ 7 years I used the detailed info on Newegg's site to see pictures and get descriptions of each of the power connectors. For example SATA power for hard drives or DVD burners, 6 / 8 pin for PCI, etc. and made sure it had what I needed. I suspect...
  34. Question Susquehanna's second chat with Charlie Demerjian

He is pretty fun. Back in the day he and his roommates would throw some pretty big house parties, and they always had something in the frig for folks who decided they'd help themselves to a snack. Jalapeno olives covered in icing, things like that. The beer was safe but beware if you think...
  35. Best Buy - 256GB Iphone XS - AT&T - $649

My wife and I were on Iphone 5's and finally decided to update / upgrade. Decided to stay w/ Apple and AT&T. Researched and really liked the XS's. Saw Best Buy had "$200 off" and went for it. In the store, working through the payments prior to setting up the phone itself, it's clearly showing...
  36. Outlook 365 - Local Software versus Server - Sync Settings?

Thanks, that seems like a good idea, and yeah I know what you are saying. I wasn't however able to make it work, mostly I'm sure with my inexperience with Office 365 (I used to be pretty good w/ the much earlier versions back when I built a new rig every 6 months or so) or because it was indeed...
  37. Outlook 365 - Local Software versus Server - Sync Settings?

My wife is using Outlook 365, she has a local installed copy on her laptop (including an outlook.pst file) and she also uses a web based version sometimes when travelling or on other devices. I typically think of this as two different ways to get to the same server, and if you were to delete an...
  38. Please Help With Media Bridge Dropping Off Network

I've got a combo / combos that work, and have abandoned figuring out why one of them doesn't, and only w/ one router in one location. Just a final followup in case it helps someone some day. RT-AC66U as router, RT-AC66U as bridge (AP): works great anywhere in the house RT-AC66U as router...
  39. Please Help With Media Bridge Dropping Off Network

Thanks for the reply! I am beginning to think that as well. My conclusions aren't necessarily right... just because the office router gets a good signal, doesn't necessarily mean it's enough, or that something else isn't knocking it off. I'm going to go through the devices connected to it again...
