For those interested this is what I ended up buying at 330 USD: https://www.officedepot.com/a/products/1676428/HP-15-ef2723od-Laptop-156-Screen/
A really great deal.
Another option at $479: https://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-IdeaPad-Everyday-Computer-Display/dp/B09YWMXYQG?tag=p00935-20&ascsubtag=073sdxCnj3NCsZ37nFzoUeD&th=1
This seems like a pretty good listing: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/acer-aspire-3-a315-24pt-r90z-15-6-full-hd-ips-touch-screen-laptop-amd-ryzen-5-7520u-with-8gb-memory-512gb-ssd-steam-blue/6530235.p?skuId=6530235&ref=212&loc=1
Any thoughts?
I need to buy a new laptop for a friend of my father whose workload is primarily going to be using Tally ERP and browsing the internet. It's not a heavy workload but the laptop should last for 5-7 years at least and hence I am keeping the budget higher.
At the bare minimum I think for the...
Follow up: I need to buy a second laptop for a friend of my father's with the exact same workload. If anyone spots any great refurbished deals (with Indian coverage; not US restricted) let me know!
I do have a major question after buying the laptop. If I'm in India and something happens, I'm not going to America then I'm just mighty screwed aren't I? Cost of shipping to America would cancel out whatever money I've saved refurbished. Any recommendations for refurbished sellers with global...
It supports MicroSD card. Is that not recommended? I don't know if it supports additional RAM or SSD.
You could always get a 17" laptop like my father and I to get the number pad on the side along with proper arrow keys instead of squished upper and lower keys
Thank you! I feel great having put in the work and found something I am satisfied with. FIngers crossed now. I will update ya after using the laptop for a while.
No worries.
I snagged the eBay list. I really hope it doesn't have scratches, dent or any defects.
Thank you SO much for helping me through this for the last hour and a half. You've been quite patient and I appreciate it.
It's refurbished and the specs look pretty great as it is a hexacore compared to some of the other similarly priced quad core laptops. The specs are similar to mine and I paid 600 USD for my laptop which wasn't refurbished.
I have been scouting for some time with new specifications: 17 inch, 4+ cores and 1920*1080.
This is what I stumbled upon: https://www.newegg.com/lenovo-ideapad-3-17aba7-everyday-value/p/1TS-000E-14WZ7?Item=9SIAKDXJS12634
Not newegg and has only 73% positive rating. Does not mention the...
Is Vipoutlet shady/bad?
In what kind of workloads does it get slow? I am asking because I am wondering if my father would run into the same kind of slowdowns.
I thought that would be dependent on your screen size. For example I am currently using a 17' laptop 1920x1080 and the text is really tiny and except gaming I have to keep it at 125%:
Is it? A 12th gen laptop could be had for 70 USD more. I imagine the performance is much better. Also side question: Do light users need quad core systems? I am worried about dual cores getting slow after a few years. If dual core can last a good 5 years for light users maybe getting refurbished...
A more subjective question I know but does the resolution of 1366 x 768 really make a difference compared to 1920 x 1080 for a work user? Or are the differences in higher resolution only for gamers/graphic workers?
That IS really good. Do you have any experience with refurbished laptops? My father's highly sceptical of buying things that have been "used" and may not work properly.
Budget (in USD):
As cheap as possible but probably 300 USD. If something truly better then 400 USD. I am buying this in America so a direct link to the best option is appreciated.
Are you open to refurbs/used?
List one refurb option just in case.

It brings me relief to know that I didn't mess up on my RAM purchasing decision. Thank you.
Guys, you won't be hearing an update for a long time now. Just getting the RAM replaced will take 7 working days and then I don't know when I'll go to get my rig tested. Thanks for the help though...
I am getting a replacement of my RAM. The vendor told me that replacement is simple enough. Right now we are going to see if RAM replacement fixes the problem?
I am actually going to go to my vendor and he'll test the rig.
Yes but the BIOS versions' dates not match in Windows 10.
I did the test again. Still got errors. Also my RAM can't be faulty right? I did a PC benchmark test: https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/20155925
My performance is still optimal, right?
Bad RAM stick? I just replaced my RAM a few months ago. I have only 1 RAM stick. I should try to switch their slots then? How does a
I changed the RAM slot from 2nd white to 4th white. Still have slow booting time.
Also since I haven''t changed RAM slot except maybe once in the past - how do...
Bad RAM stick? I just replaced my RAM a few months ago. I have only 1 RAM stick. I should try to switch their slots then? How does a RAM slot get bad? Frequent power outages?
Thank you for your suggestions. We finally have some leads. There were issues with the memtest86. The test took 4 hours. Is that normal?
I also conducted a RAM test while I was at it.
I did the stress test and the results are normal. I only did it for two minutes but the graph showed a...
Turns out from 'scanning for signal' screen of my monitor till Windows booting takes 17 seconds which is certainly problematic.
Secondly, I have fast boot enabled. Is that why I can't enter BIOS when I restart my PC?
I removed my EHDs; the results were mostly the same. Maybe 2 seconds less...
I know that setting. It is at 3 seconds but as I said pressing F2 would be pointless after the restart.
Also I have used a stopwatch and gotten booting times of roughly 23 seconds. Multiple times. As for microstutters, I can't stopwatch something as miniscule as 1 second (2 might be too much)...
There's another problem: I can't run BIOS when I restart Windows 10. Once the black screen appears, when I press F2 to get to BIOS, the system is indefinitely stuck. I restart it usually because I don't want to wait for 10 minutes until it just starts Windows 10 again.
How do I get to BIOS...
