Integrated Audio:Good idea or not?

My onboard C-media audio works fine for me, but if you do go with onboard audio, I think you want it to be a hardware solution, like the C-media chip, and not a software codec, like AC97. Also, here's a question: does the A7M266 use the via 686B southbridge? If so, is it ok to use a SBLive /w it?

router recommendation?

I've got a Netgear RT314, and it works good for me. The newest firmware just added support for forwarding of port ranges, so I think that got rid of one turnoff.

IWILL-kk266 onboard sound compared to mx-300

I'm using the onboard sound... I didn't want to spend more money than I had to. It sounds fine to me, but I don't really have any standard of comparison.

Windows 2K gives me Wood!

St4rcutter, do you play a lot of games on this w2k system? I do, and I'm lucky to keep win98se going for more than a few days. If I can play games on w2k, and it will still remain stable, I might have to go for it.

What's the deal with NewEgg.com? How do they make money?

I'd recommend them. I bought all the components for my system from them (except Crucial ram ;) ). It took a whole week for it to arrive, but then again I ordered on Memorial Day. Everything arrived intact, so I was happy.

Thermaltake VOLCANO II Heatsink - question

I don't know how high of a risk of crushing the core, but you will need a flathead screwdriver and a lot of force to apply it. It's a pain, and I suppose you could crush the core if you pushed it down hard enough. I was more afraid of slipping and gouging the mobo traces.

Shining4Ev, you could just buy CS, but you could get the full HL and then just download CS, that way not only would have CS, but also Half Life. The only reason not to do this would be if you have dialup, but you'll still have to d/l patches. I can't fully agree with CybaHell, as I enjoy both...

Yes, I CAN ping numeric Ip's from a DOS prompt, and yes I did uninstall ZoneAlarm recently when I switched to Sygate.... I don't think I've installed any spyware recently. I'll give your fix a try now.

I liked reading in my KK266 manual that the options for the Flash Protection setting were Freshable and Non-Freshable. :) Makes you feel good that they invest so much time in getting these manuals right doesn't it? Well, at least Iwill makes good mobos...

I'll vote for the AMD system, and I think many others will too. I would imagine your Amd system would be stable, but a can't speak from first hand experience there. The only really widespread Via issue I've seen has been using SB Lives with Via chipsets.

CPU DB: Where's the option for K6-2s, P2s, etc.?

I'm glad we have a cpu database here at AT now, but where's the option for older cpus? We should be able to demonstrate our overclocking skills on low risk disposable processors! :D No, seriously, I know these might be quite old now, but the cpu db seems somewhat limited to me with only a few...
