Which hsf should I get for my Northwood 1.8a?

Alpha 8942 with any kind of fan you like. I'm using a Panaflo 1LA (dead silent!), and running my 1.6A @ 2480, with temps around 42C under HEAVY load. These things are SO cool! :)

System will not post, no error codes??

ok... well, i got it to boot today, but i'm honestly confused. I flipped the system speaker plug-in on the mobo upside down, and it booted. so... i used it for a bit, went to work, came home, and tried to turn it back on, and... nothing. same old crap. so i'm thinking its either the system...

System will not post, no error codes??

I was workin on my computer last night, replacing a couple fans and such.... everything worked just fine beforehand, but after I switched out my fans, the system would not boot at all. It turns on, the fans power up, the hard drive/power leds come on, and the motherboards leds light up too...

bozo galora... i completely missed your message up there till just now ;) VERY interesting piece of info, but i definitely believe it. I'm using a Linksys 10/100 right now, i do believe that's my problem. But you're right, you would think the higher quality product would be able to handle...

hey thugs... question for you. Do you think I'd have any problem running a low low speed papst fan on my processor? With the 40cfm panaflo on my alpha 8942, i'm averaging around 31c idle and about 44c under extreme load, so its by no means hot. I was just curious if you think it'd hurt much...

passive cooling on a geforce 3 Ti200 core?

I'm trying to reduce the noise in my case as much as possible... i was wondering if its possible to just use a passive cooler on the core of my Geforce 3 Ti200? Something like the Zalman Chipset cooler, or i believe alpha has a new line of chipset heatsinks out...... Anyone have any experience...

i would, but i really want to keep my lian-li case, i've put a good deal of money and work into it... what i really want is something i can put into my current case. of course, if i was gonna get a case, i've heard great things about the swiftec q-power cases...

Well, the more i look at it, and the more i listen to my "quiet" computer, the more i feel like its just not quiet enough and i want some water in there doing the work for me ;) However.... i really have NO idea what is good, affordable, and worth my money to get. So, here's what I have...

i'm about 99% certain its my network card and my hard disks... windows will run stable, i've run a full night of sandra burn-in at 155fsb without any problems, but when i try to use the network card, it goes whackjob... or when i reboot, it always wants to run chkdsk... off topic there, i have...

must... have... 1/5 divider... i've run my 1.6a well over 155fsb just fine, but the pci cards freak out... like exp said, i'm fairly certain 166fsb is well within reach! Camma

well i remember reading somewhere seeing that the temps get reversed when you flash the bios to the p4s533 bios.... somethin like that. its under control now :)

got it... seti@home buried itself on me, wasn't showing up on any of my task monitors or my startup routine, not quite sure how it got there ;) idle temp 31C at 1.58v and 2347mhz :) full load it runs at about 50C, which i can live with just fine :) i do so hate when programs bury themselves...

i'm running high speed lol... its at 2347, but only at 1.58v, idle, and its AS3, yes, applied properly... but i may end up re-seating the heatsink and seeing if somehow my as3 didn't apply like i would hope

tried that... its sucking now, instead of blowing... up to 50C :( if i have to take the hsf off and reapply the AS3, i'm gonna be pissed... that heatsink is a PAIN IN THE ARSE to install lol Camma

What is the quietest 80 mm than can push >35cfm??

of course, if you really want good airflow at a lower noise... you can get like a 68cfm delta and a rhoebus and turn it down to a lower speed ;)

AS3 on ram heat spreaders?

Will it make any kinda difference at all if i attach my thermaltake heat spreaders with arctic silver 3 as opposed to the thermal tape they include? just curious... that 512mb pc2700 samsung is REALLY tempting me right now... Camma

Northwood temps and alpha 8942 question

I'm running a P4 1.6A at 1.58v, on an asus p4s333 with an Alpha 8942 w/40CFM Panaflo fan. My questions are thus... Asus probe shows my CPU temp at around 42C, idle, and my MB temp at around 32C. Which of these is the correct temp? And if its the first one.... shouldn't this be running cooler...

one more question... my temps seem to be a bit high to me, i'm using the asus probe... my vcore is only at 1.58, but my cpu is reading at like 47C default, with the MB temp showing 33C. which of these is right, and if the cpu one is right... why on earth is it so darn hot? i'm using a 1.6a...

yup and yup... it doesn't affect my system at all, i think it might be cause my cpu fan doesn't have an rpm monitoring tail on it, so it doesn't detect a cpu fan running... good success though, i've had my 1.6a running over 2.5 gig... but my pci devices don't like it :( they need to release a...
