Discussion Zen 5 Speculation (EPYC Turin and Strix Point/Granite Ridge - Ryzen 9000)

If this thread also covers APUs, like strix point, then there is gonna be some graphics discussion in relation to other APUs/SOCs/whatever you want to call fully integrated systems on a single chip. Graphics are an integral part of the Strix designs. Maybe key architectural details and maybe...

    Discussion Apple Silicon SoC thread

Oh no I am quite literally speaking from experience, there might be 2 products left with USB-A, but that doesn't change that fact that apple has cut back on type A ports significantly in the past decade. Lol maybe the only reason they havent removed them from the mini and studio yet is...

Because all the probably dozens of usb c cables I have are type A to type C except for one really nice type C cable that I always leave at home. And I only even have it for the couple times I wanted to try display output. I had a USB-C android phone for a bit and it legit came with type A to...

Cost and availability are a thing too, having to go out and buy new cables and peripherals just to use a new computer is lame. A hub is a dongle, just slightly more useful since it has more than one port on it and generally has a longer cable. Lemme give you a personal example, me having to...

Discussion Zen 5 Speculation (EPYC Turin and Strix Point/Granite Ridge - Ryzen 9000)

I mean maybe $1999 for the 128gb models, $999 for 16gb units. With all sorts of various form factor pricing within. I mean when I look at amazon, 4080 laptops are under 2k, thats a lot silicon you get on one device, I see no reason to assume they're gonna price the chip so high when it really...

Discussion Zen 5 Speculation (EPYC Turin and Strix Point/Granite Ridge - Ryzen 9000)

Branding is nothing, all that matters is performance and cost. Nobody buys X3D chips because they have a cooler model number, they buy em because they're faster. Strix Halo definitely isn't going to dethrone Nvidia. On paper it should be a bit faster than a 4070m, 36 SM vs 40 CU, but still way...

there are a couple benchmarks in that review where the v-cache chip does beat the objectively much better vanilla zen 4 cpus, cache does still matter more for some workloads

Could be old, could be a typo and the person meant 2024, could be all fake too esp from what we know about xitter leakers. But hey stuff is starting to trickle out I guess, and RDNA4 still hasn't had its announcement so thats something.?

This moderator specifically says "don't get baited" in regards to the Zen 5 thread. So that means people posting bait is allowed and not considered trolling? I really am just asking for clarification, not a long winded story. It just seems like the rules are getting a bit muddy and it saddens...

    AnandTech Forum Guidelines

This rule really needs more elaboration IMO because in the CPU forums there seems to be an extreme lack of "backing up arguments with facts" and a certain Zen 5 speculation thread is just full of people getting infractions just trying to ask other users for their sources. Like really when it...

Not trying to defend Most Likely In Denial, but so far the silicon twitter gang have lost pretty much all of their credibly at this point. It would be by far the most insane thing for AMD to be sandbagging right now, so given the computex presentation I think it's very safe to say they were all...

Discussion Zen 5 Speculation (EPYC Turin and Strix Point/Granite Ridge - Ryzen 9000)

Price determines how many cores someone buys compared to absolute specs. If it cost as much to buy a brand new 8c cpu vs a 16c one, a lot of people would indeed prefer core count over a small amount of 1t gain. This is literally a myth and for 99% of people running multi-core workloads or just...

It makes more sense that competing sites would run chatbots on the forums 24/7 that constantly inflate threads, derail, post flame bait, and generally try to quietly DDOS the place. Look at how much the forum chugs lately, if anyone is pushing AI posts on this site its definitely not the same...

    Question Zen 6 Speculation Thread

I would still rather have 16/12 mildly slower cores instead of 8/6 mildly faster ones at the same price for my work PC. And with the dense chiplets they should be able to sell single CCD 16c for a price very similar to the single CCD 8C chip, or 12 small cores for the price of 6 big ones right now.

More people talking about AMD = better, I don't think they could care less about whatever happens in the internet rumor mill. What matters is a good product and unless Zen5 actually sucks and cost $999, all of this animosity is gonna be gone by release. I predict a Ryzen 9000 owners thread...

Discussion Zen 5 Speculation (EPYC Turin and Strix Point/Granite Ridge - Ryzen 9000)

Guess nobody cares about power anymore eh? How much more efficient was Zen4 compared to Zen3? Not trying to patronize, its a genuine question, because they raised TDPs quite a bit with that clock gain. And still its so early, AMDs supposedly lower power with Z5 could be much overstated, don't...

Discussion Zen 5 Speculation (EPYC Turin and Strix Point/Granite Ridge - Ryzen 9000)

Even a 15% IPC increase every two years is a lot better than many of their competitors. I will wait to be disappointed when I see the prices also reviews will be interesting, if Zen5 is a lot more efficient than Zen4 then this is still a big win even if most people aren't that into power savings.

    Discussion RDNA4 + CDNA3 Architectures Thread

And what about if you count add in GPU sales including direct to customer, like Intel and Nvidia and AMD all do? I don't think any of the design companies care about a singular customer more than the entire rest of the market share when it comes to their strategies. They care about units shipped...

    Discussion RDNA4 + CDNA3 Architectures Thread

Not at all when we are talking market-share, nobody is buying an intel CPU entirely and only for its iGPU without intentions of experimentation or journalism. Their market share is only going to go up if they manage to sell more dGPUs. AMDs marketshare will also go up if they sell more APUs but...

They have a 15% marketshare while counting APUs.Also market share being a percentage gets hit a lot harder when a 3rd competitor breaks a duopoly. People don't know what they want until they have it, MT performance is relevant every day but because 99% of people don't spend money on premium products they think its a niche case... until years later when the high end tech finally trickles down to mid range and low end. If the translation says they want to make the first MCM GPU, then that definitely means advanced packaging multiple chips together. Doesn't AMD have a ton of patents about GPU crossbars and such? Also they seem to have a good and established memory and cache chiplet from RDNA3 that they're...

Discussion Zen 5 Speculation (EPYC Turin and Strix Point/Granite Ridge - Ryzen 9000)

It would be funny if all the rumors are wrong and Zen5 is actually the 'Zen2' of AM5. New IO die, probably 3D stacked and with LLC, and 32c for the 8950x, but only milder IPC and clock gains. But I do think its more likely they go all in on optimizing right now and do the IO transition on Zen6...

Discussion Leading Edge Foundry Node advances (TSMC, Samsung Foundry, Intel) - [2020 - 2025]

Its not a strange take at all, AMD has gone on record saying they undership. Discussion Leading Edge Foundry Node advances (TSMC, Samsung Foundry, Intel) - [2020 - 2025]

At this rate it really feels like AMD is going to choke on volume if they don't start using other foundries for key products. Otherwise they can never improve market share if they never make more chips, which will end their good stock prices IMO. But also maybe they don't care and want to go...
