Any recent reviews on laptop build quality?

Lenovo is quite good for build quality in most cases, especially with the older systems. Not sure about the newer ones, as I have not had my hands on one yet, but I would assume they are just as good. Toshiba systems are crappy. Nothing but plastic throughout......

Who provides OS media with laptops?

Most Lenovo systems, even if they come with a recovery dvd set, will allow you to create your own set of discs once. Most people don't even know about this feature, which is a shame.....

ISSUE: Toshiba Satellite P105-S6227

I had a pretty wierd issue with a customer laptop last month. It would work perfectly with the power not plugged in and running off of battery. Plug the system in and it would start randomly rebooting and getting super hot. Take a stick of memory out and it ran perfectly again with the power...

Help me troubleshoot this laptop, Please!

What is the model # of the replacement board that you used? If it has a slot for discrete video, then odds are it may not even have any kind of onboard video. One way to find that out is figure out what chipset the board uses and do some Google searches....

Old motherboards still doing you proud :)

I had a K8N Neo-F (v2.0, from the Geeks $30 sale a few years ago). The SATA ports stopped working on it for some strange reason, but I think it might just be something wrong with the BIOS chip. So, as a replacement, I found a K8N Neo4 Platinum to replace it. It's running great now and even runs...

Interesting power issue with Toshiba laptop

Well, I ended up replacing the motherboard actually. Upon closer inspection around the power circuitry on the original board, there was a surface component that looked burned up to a small extent. I put the new board in and it is back to the client and working perfectly now.

Interesting power issue with Toshiba laptop

So I am working on a Toshiba laptop for a friend. It's a Satellite P205D-S7454. The issue is that when the power is plugged in, the system will lock up whenever it wants to. If I remove one of the DIMMs and run with a single, it boots up just fine and is happy to do whatever I want. Now here is...

MSI K8N Neo4 nForce4 Ultra Socket 939

I built one of my rigs last year with this board. It sat around until March when I finally moved all of my stuff over to it from my last rig. I paired it with an x2 4400+ and it screams. 2 gigs of G.Skill RAM as well and its a night and day difference between this machine and my last one...

Why you should get a Lenovo/IBM

Actually, you can make your own set of recovery media. Look for the Create Rescue Media option in your start menu ...... :) No need to pay for discs from them or bother ghosting .... Matt

What BIOS does it have on it now? What is the date? Here is a link to the latest BIOS. Make sure that you download the Flash Utility and use that version only! L7S7A2 BIOS Hope this helps you out.... Also, could be the memory you are running that is preventing you from pushing the bus speed...

Remanufactured Ink Cartridges

Differences between T40 and T41?

The T41 has the Active Protection system, which is like an airbag for your hard drive. The T40 doesn't. Aside from that, the graphics chipset may be different, bigger / smaller HDD .... Matt

ECS pulls a fast one...changes mem spec to DDR333 on site for 755-A

Sometimes that is the price of being on the cutting edge. Looks like the A2 rev of that same board supports 400Mhz memory clock. Maybe they should not have released the board when they did....... More than likely to get the 400Mhz memory speed to work properly, they had to do some hardware...

Char-Grill does indeed have the best burgers around here. Although there is a little place in Cary, called Abbey Road that has burgers that rank right up there with Char-Grill. I go there more than Char-Grill because its right down the street from where I live.......

The screen is a nice one (UXGA type) and has a pretty good viewing angle compared to a lot of the other Thinkpads I've had my hands on. No dead pixels to speak of. Its also very bright, when plugged in to AC. Of course that drops a little bit when you unplug it, but its not unpleasant. As far...
