there isn't really any gooood way to make sure that your system is always secure other than to keep yourself educated on the latest software updates. Most machines are rooted for services they didn't even realize they had running nor did they want them ie: fingerd or pop3d. If you aren't using a...
if you are pinging by ip dns is completly out of the question. this could also be a static routing issue - check your arp/routing tables and make sure to clear them.
you guys shouldn't really need to wait for your distro to release a kernel, just go to kernel.org and compile it yourself. It's a pretty easy process just takes about 10 minutes.
you probly have a symbolic link of some sort setup to /dev/urandom or some wahcked accidental thing. Are you able to copy any contents out of the folder?
i would also reccomend slack. Slack has many great features - the only draw back that slack now has is it's lack of updates and support. This happened when the original funding sources left town and forced slack to move on to a much slower development cycle.
I live in Duluth, MN where this is already in effect and all I can say is that the diners in the area realllly suffer from this, many smokers will go to the next town just to eat and smoke at the same time.
mandrake or redhat will get you running linux easily as far as the install goes. Personally I would still reccomend gentoo - yes the install takes some time but trial and error is what makes you really learn linux. Gentoo has an incredible support forum, support documentation and I personnaly...
definatly gentoo, all the distro's out there will work and they all have their small indefferences but with gentoo you are getting incredible support via the forums, and everything is compiled exactly for your system for optimization. Gentoo also makes it pretty easy to get a preemptive kernel...

I would feel dirty, then after that, if I did clean up I wouldn't come back to this forum where people know who i am, and at the least; tell them who I am.

Hey, I have been trying to teach myself c++ for quite some time now but I always fall short of finding good online resources for tutorials and examples, does any one have a good site that I can check out?
living in minnesota as i do, not sure where you shipped it too but i have seen on several occasions that some one will get a new psu or computer, have it in there car or get it shipped in cold weather. So, they get the thing into their house, jam the thing right into the outlet and BANG smoke...
