This used to happen a lot when they "faked" widescreen resolutions in a 4:3 letterbox, rather than having a full 16:9 actual feed. I had a couple of discs back in the day (been a LONG time) that were that way - "widescreen" versions to be displayed on an old 4:3 TV, rather than an actual 16:9...

Poll: Do you still use optical drives?

One external kept around for ripping movies and music, and for some retro gaming. Works fine, but I won't do internal. Still do internal 5.25 bays though, because Icydock makes a great 2.5x4 -> 5.25x1 or 2.5x16->5.25x2 adapters, for lots and lots of storage.

Server Data, Raid 5 Initialization Time vs. Rebuild Time

And for that matter, software raid or LVM-esque filesystems (ZFS, ReFS, etc) are just as good as hardware RAID, if not better (lots of time spent optimizing that in software due to the enterprise space), and also do better checksumming/data management.
