Venice 3800+ vs. Newcastle 3800+

Um..bunk. About 6 years ago AMD was less stable, they are equal now for all purposes. Where did you hear S939 was getting cancelled? I search websites all the time and have heard no such thing. DDR2 isn't that much of an improvement, and AMD has said so, so that shouldn't be an issue...

A clean computer is a happy computer

Hmm..I tend to use my step-dad's really huge air compressor. You can blow out some dust pretty well with about 80PSI at your disposal. Not to mention, you don't have to worry about that little freezing problem you would with the cans of air. ;)

2400+ heat output

Getting a SK-7 isn't an option, niether is getting anything above the price of 20 bucks, or anything louder than what I have. If my orb won't cool it well enough, I've played with it long enough to trust it NOT breaking my CPU, I'll just pay the extra cash and get the stock fan that comes with...

1900+ Heatsink Question

Actually, it's currently working on a 1ght Athlon. Pretty well too. Only time it gets above 47C is when it gets really dirty....and that's for what my old toothbrush is.

Why does everyone diss the Kyro2?

My Kyro is still chugging along quite nicely. Never really had any glitches with it, other than if you enable FSAA with it, you see lens flares through walls. Big deal, I'd rather play at 1024x768 and get 50-80fps than play at 800x600 with 4XAA and get 40 anyway. (Just a rough estimate folks...

LOL. I've noticed people always pulling up Tom's totally butchered benches too, but they totally ignore Anand's UT2 bench results. For those that either don't feel like looking, or missed it, the Kyro 2 was within a PERCENT of a GF2 Ti200.

FSAA and anisotropic filtering...

My suggestion is that you turn on everything as high as it will go, and see if it runs smooth enough for YOU. I say you with emphasis because I've heard people here say they need everything from 30, to 120frames per second..it's all about what you care to look at. You should probably start...

help me pick a couple vid cards

System one. Kyro2, Geforce 2, (Not MX, stay away from them no matter how strapped for cash you are), Radeon of any kind, (except VE), that's about it. The Radeon's driver issues are way overblown. Once it's installed, and works, that should be all you have to do unless you have troubles...

vsync = cuts fps in half?!

Same thing happens to my Kyro 2. Only I can only do 72hz at 10x7, so when my frame rate drops in half, it hits 36. I thought it was a Kyro issue, but I'm glad it isn't. And for some reason 36 fps with it on, v-synch that is, looks much less smooth than 36 with it off. Go figure, that's the...

First, I'd check your settings on everything. Paraknowya.com has a nice little FAQ with just about everything you could ever want to know in it. If that doesn't work, loose half the RAM. Kyros don't like over 256megs.

You shouldn't have to, just don't put it on in the first place. And no, it won't break warrenty to use a different cooler...so long as it's certified by AMD. You can see which ones are on AMD.com. Seriously though, even if they aren't, they shouldn't have to know what cooler you are using, so...

Does anyone use AA?

I use it in any game that doesn't cause my frame rate to go below 60(if it's a FPS), or 40(if it's a racing game). I'd use 4X at 1600x1200 if I could but seeing as my video card, and monitor for that matter, won't allow it, I can't use it often. The only thing I hate worse than jaggies is...

Um, sorry, but why would it make VIA look bad to adopt a Kyro design on thier integrated boards? S3 blows in comparison on every level. Kyro has better 2d, D3D, OpenGL, and in most cases is more compatable. But it's like I said before in other posts, VIA couldn't easily screw up a Kyro chip...
