OK, I'm gonna make this recommendation again: NOD32 Caught 3 little trojans that AVG free missed. You can get a 2 year subscription at 50% off the second year. NOD32 is light and fast. KAV is much heavier, and defintiely much slower. If you like KAV, you'll love NOD32.

Why don't you use Mozilla Firebird?

I use Firebird exclusively now. I haven't visited a Firebird unfriendly site in a long time. It loads quickly for me, even with IE still installed. It really is fantastic. I like Opera, but it seemed to render more incorrect pages than Firebird.

Sorry to hear that. My version of 6.0 has been working fine for many months. I've found their CS to be pretty good, if not exceptionally fast. You may wait a day or two, but you'll get a thoughtful answer.

Exactly - you're a fragger. Nothing wrong with that. Fragging skill can be countered in BF with the ability to hide and wait in the right spot. And you're right, planes rule some maps. But AA's pretty lethal, too.

Helping a neighbour upgrade his older Compaq with i810 (maybe i810e) chipset. Currently has 2x64MB DIMMs in both slots. We want to add 256MB. Single-sided 256MB SDRAM sticks are less-expensive than double-sided sticks, but are they compatible with the i810(e)? Been searchine everywhere...

SMC vs Netgear router (please help)

Never touched the SMC, but I've had both the RP114 and now the RP614. I've never had a problem with Netgear stuff. The RP614 has a few more features than the older 114. One of my favourites is labelling the port forwards so you don't have to remember which port maps to which app.

AMD Hosed me, What should I do?

Let's not get too picky here. You've got AS - scrape off the TIM with a razor blade, clean it as best you can, or even use some wet/dry sandpaper mounted on a flat surface to lap the heatsink if you want. Either way, you'll be fine.

Recommend a quiet cd burner?

My last 2 LG burners (15X and 52X) and readers (52X) have been as quiet as my 40X Plextor reader. The 52X burner is very capable - just make sure you update the firmware.

Need to find Plextor PX-40TSi SCSI CDROM

Just took a quick look around, and didn't find one at any of my favourite suppliers. You can still get a SCSI Pleaxtor CDRW, or find a used one. I have the Wide version, but that apparently won't help you.

I've found the LG drives to be among the quietest. Despite reports to the contrary, my Pioneer slot-load DVD ROM is also reasonably quiet, and is among the fastest for providing you access to the disc just inserted.

DeWalt is the high-end of the Black and Decker line (same company). B&D is OK for occasional use. I prefer Porter Cable stuff, but it's closer in price and quality to DeWalt than B&D. Makita makes good stuff too. Pretty much, you get what you pay for. There is no such thing as a free lunch...

Inexpensive dual monitor video cards with DVI???

I originally bought a Radeon VE to handle DVI for an LCD and VGA for a CRT. Problem was, you could only span multiple monitors at the same resolution (as pointed out) and even then, a maximized window now spanned both monitors. I eventually just got a PCI G200 for the CRT, and now a Millenium...
