ECS 8800GT @ the egg -- my experience

Hee Hee, glad I was not the only that almost had a heart attack when my comp went BEEEEEEEEEEEP because I forgot to plug in the pcie power plug. My clips also came off, not sure if it's the ups man or ECS. Do install the fans, it's not loug at all. I got the Zerotherm BT90, the turbocool fans...

Mixing memory

Here's the situation, I already bought 2 GB of PQI PC5300 way back. Now with all the cheap price on ram, what do you think of adding 2 more GB of the Corsair PC6400 that's on newegg? Will this cause any problem? Thank.

Alternative to Raptor

I have the 150 GB Raptor right now. The noise is driving my wife crazy so I'm gonna sell the Raptor and upgrading my present rig(new mb, 8800 gt, so on....). What's the next best thing to the Raptor given the same price range? Thank you all for your input.

Which AMD cpu?

First, what's the different between the Opteron and the X2? They're both duo core. Which one is the better choice? The price is about the same right now, well actually the 4400+ cost more since it's oem and there's a $5 shipping. For gaming, which one would you choose? Thank.

Not sure about the mobo choice, you planning to OC? As for ram, I say go for A-Data. According to Anandtech, these will run pretty high.

Two 74gb Raptors vs one 150gb Raptor

Hum, I thought all Raptors have 16 MB cache? Raid with Raptors does not make much difference. Anandtech did an article on this, search for it. I have the 150 GB right now, great drive, but loud so I could just imagine two of them running together!!

ASUS A8N-E and random lockups

I had a freeze and random reboot with my AsRock and E6400. Turn out it was my Kingmax DDR400 Dual channel memory. Piece of crap.

Alright rkwok, I think I have solved the rebooting problem. I think it was the Kingmax DDR400 that I had in there. I swapped in some non dual channel that I had laying around, no reboot, no problem. I ran Sandra and 3D Mark 2005, no problem. So I think the bios is okay. I'll let you know some...

Well, I did a fresh install. Here's the progress so far. I won't finish a run of 3D Mark 2005. It would crash, other time it would reboot. It took me 4 tries to reinstall Day of Defeat Source from a backup file. I tried to play it twice, both times it crashes and reboot. I did tried DoD again...

Okay rkwok, there's some issue. I have been getting random reboot, especially if I'm trying to play game (Half Life 2, Day of Defeat,...). I am going to do a fresh install on Windows, then do some burn in test to see if it's stable or not. Hopefully I'll have some answer by this weekend.

Did that tonight, no go. It will recognize my SATA Hitachi (80 GB), but not the Raptor. The drive shows up in the bios and during boot up screen, but Windows say it can't find hard disk, grrrrr.

Um, who told you that? Since upgrading to E6400, my fps in DoD doubled. No more studdering during a fight, everything is now smooth like butta!

I got mine from ewiz.com, it's the Rev 2 that supports Conroe. I am having problem with it though. I won't recognize my 150 GB Raptor.
