Does Gamecube outputs 1080i (HDTV) ?

<< - Xbox does support 1080i output ... via the optional connector assembly ($15). Xbox has a switch that will allow you to choose the mode depending on the TV. But this applies only to games ... the DVD playback still is only 480p. - Nintendo cannot (I just called them) output more than 480p...

Laptops: Inspiron vs. Latitude

In general, the latitude line is Dell's "Enterprise" model, and the Inspiron is the "consumer" model. I have _heard_ that the latitude is therefore a higher quality model, however I have seen some people have horrible problems with Latitudes... that eventually resulted in RMAing the whole...

I just reread your original post. SQL is based off of relational algebra. RA does not specify the order in which tuples (rows) are returned. Because of this, you should never "count on" rows being ordered a specific way unless you specify some "order by" clause. In practice, most rdbms...

If you are not going to be updating the tables in question very often, you could do a SELECT INTO to generate a new table with the sorted order, and then run your queries against that. However... the catch there is that you are storing multiple copies of the data in your database, so there...

Why didn't they ever make ZIF expansion slots?

I remember on one old motherboard... when I would use a new ISA slot, I would have to "loosen it up" by wedging the end of a screwdriver in there and twisting it back and forth. Most PCI slots I don;t have too much of a problem with though.

Please Tell me why you hate Macintosh

I don't really hate... but it has always seemed that the Mac was not a developer friendly platform. Perhaps this will change now that it is running a real preemptive multitasking OS. So basically the lack of Visual Studio kind of turns me off... Also, no games to speak of. At best Mac gets...

looking for a program to lock folders

Why don't you just prevent other users from accessing the folder? This will allow you to see your folders without worrying about other users messing with them. Perhaps if you explain the scenario a bit better someone will have a better solution.

Try going to www.java.sun.com and downloading the real java plug-in. Microsoft had to stop development around Java 1.1, at which time java still sucked pretty bad. I use the Sun plugin all the time in IE6 without any problems. BTW, if your comp is having a hard time finding shell32.dll then it...

How high is too high?

The HSF is whatever generic one it came with... No thermal grease, just the little pad that was on the bottom. Perhaps I will look into getting a new fan. The mainboard temp is hovering around 35oC. Should I look into getting a case fan? Blowing in or out? Thanks!

How high is too high?

I have a TBird 700MHz running at around 62oC at full load.... Should I be concerned?? I would like to leave this system on 24x7... am I going to have any problems??? Thanks for any advice!

Virus scanner for Windows 2000 Advanced Server?

This is the only one I know of. I am pretty happy with it, not only can you schedule scans, but it will actively monitor all incoming and outgoing files. The only problems occur when people neglect to update the signatures. Computer Associates eTrust Antivirus

The easiest thing to do is run a portscan... dslreports has a java applet that will do it. Also, if you have IIS running and you have port 80 open on your machine go to c:\winnt\logfiles\.... Somewhere in there (I forget right now) you will find your IIS logs, which will have all requests that...

need help getting ip from linksys router in mandrake 8.1

I tried executing dhcpcd and when I look at the syslog I see that it saying "timed out waiting for a valid DHCP server response." Any suggestions? Thanks.

Is there any way to speed up the drop down menus in WinXP?

The biggest problem, is that the menu's use that "fade" effect, which basically just scales the alpha channel. Not too many video cards do alpha in hardware right now...

Go to display properties -> appearance -> effects. You can disable some of the flashy gui stuff from in there. Also, if you go to Control Panel->Performance you get a much more comprehensive listing of stuff you can turn on/off to make the gui run faster.

Asus A7V133 and Linux?

Technical memory management

Try going to a bookstore and grabbing a copy of "Inside Windows 2K" It will give you (in WAAY too much detail) exactly how every subsystem in 2k works. Also, BTW, windows 98 and 2k handle memory in COMPLETELY different fashions. It is really too much to get into here... I would suggest...

No... it looks at the hardware in your system, and tries to determine if it is a different computer. If you are constantly changing all of your hardware, and you do it on less than a 30 day cycle, I would say DON'T activate until you are set on the hardware. You do have 30 days, after all.

What is Microsoft's recommendation on creating Sites? 1 Server per City, each can be a site? What are the benefits?

have you tried looking around microsoft.com? Try going to MSDN. It is packed with all sorts of info about MS products, you will probably find some recommendations about configuring DCs in there.

Best OS for Seti crunching?
