is this normal when OCing?

I'm pretty sure the problem with not being able to do "half steps" (8.5, 9.5) on the multiplier has to do with one of the L1 bridges not being connected (unlocked). I know I read something on that here on the board a couple of weeks ago... Try re-doing the pencil trick, or better...

Cigarette package foil to unlock AMD's?

It could work, but bear in mind that those bridges are really tiny. I mean, really, really tiny. :D Each one is about 2mm long by .5mm (guessing) and they aren't much more than 1 or 2 mm apart. I had to use the tip of a dental probe and a magnifying glass to apply the window-defogger repair...

Which is better for games, Duron 800@1000/133 or TB 900@1000/133 ??

Yep, a T-Bird always beats a Duron at the same clock, thanks to the TB's bigger, faster on-board cache. I'm very happy with my TB 900@1000/133 (I run mostly WWII combat flight sims, and it's great). See the specs in my sig for more detail. PR

Hmmm. I have a very similar setup to yours (A7V133, TB900, PAL6035, and Sunon 26.5 cfm fan), and my T-bird is running closer to 40C. Even OCed to 1050 (7.5x140) it was idling at around 45. This is with a case temperature of about 25C/77F. Not sure how a heatsink could be faulty (no moving...

I just re-read your post: You really need more fans on the case itself. The only ones that are impacting airflow through the case are the ones on the power supply itself. I'd say at a minimum, you need one on the front of the case drawing cool air in. Another on the back exhausting the hot...

Running Temp for Thunderbird 900mhz

LongAce: Technically, 66C is within the safety zone, but it's pretty hot just the same. I have essentially the same rig, running at 933 right now (7.0x133) but I have had it running at 1.0gHz (7.5x133) and as high as 1050 (7.5x140) before I got a BSOD. I run an Alpha PAL6035 with a Sunon...

Heatsink on North Bridge Chip?

Thanks, guys. For the record, the HS is attached to the board, with little plastic pins that snap through the board. They have a little "spring" molded into them that is probably supposed to provide some down pressure on the HS, but it is apparently not enough. The fan is screwed...

Electrical tape over L1??

A better bet would be to use the paint from a rear-window defogger kit or a conductive pen to bridge the L1 bridges. (I used the rear-window defogger paint.) It requires a steady hand, but it will be infinitely more durable than the "pencil trick". Good luck! PR

Not yet. I hadn't considered messing with the voltage, since the machine posts normally. Would the voltage make a difference in whether Windows loads or not? What should I change it to? I'm new to this OC stuff. Enlighten me... :D PR

OK, My new T-Bird 900 system runs like a clock at 7.5x133 (997.5mHz). (other specs below) When I set the multiplier to 8.0, it posts normally, but then Windows refuses to launch (it freezes on the "Windows 98" loading screen) and I have to do a hard reboot. This happens consistently...
