first build horrors

If you use a compressed air can to clean out dust and it condenses on your video card, do not restart your machine until the front has completely disappated, other wise a nice blue flame and pop frys the card and the mobo.

ATI vs NVIDIA image quality

As above, some of the earlier (ie few years back) Nvidia cards did have poor filtering so that their 2D image quality was less than ATI at that time. Matrox had the best 2D then. I have owned all of these cards. Currently, however, the upper line cards of Nvidia and ATI seem virtually identical...

Need a card for Dual Screen work

If you expect to have 3D on both monitors, be aware that not many games support dual monitors. I do recommend the dual DVI out video cards. It eliminates any worries about picture quality due to VGA conversion.

I elected to order the FREE CDROM with SP2 update on it so that I could handle the upgrade on several machines. All of the changes were flawless using the CD. Microsoft's site has the order form.

I'd like to thank OCZ VX for being the best memory since BH-5

Waht voltage did you need to run at those settings? The advantage of the TCCD chips was, I thought, that it can o'clock with little or no voltage increase.

Just to clarify, if any virus existed, it is likely either on your hard drive or on the floppy disk, not on the floppy drive hardware. No problem.

You did not reply to indicate if your mobo came in or was part of a Dell, Gateway, etc computer. If so, you can look in the BIOS but it does not exist in those specialized mobos.

Any chain computer store will sell the floppy cleaner (prob at a $10 rip off price) but you can go to a local computer "repair" store (not a chain) and pick up a used floppy drive for $5-$10, which might be your first choice. But, assuming you have no viruses and that your mobo/BIOS is fine...

Antec RMA: Getting a cross-ship!

Antec also replaced one of my PSU after about 2.5 years with a newer and bigger version. I had to pay for shipping my old unit to them, that was all.

I agree that it is likely that one of your disks is either damaged or damaged your drive. The cleaning kit that I mentioned costs about the same as a used floppy drive. meltdown75's suggestion is the better way to go; but, look closely at the disks that you used on the old floppy and replace...

Frankly, I don't have much more to suggest. But, you did check that the floppy data cable was firmly connected and properly oriented both at the floppy end and at the mobo end. Another option is to get a floppy drive "cleaner" which is just a floppy disk with a felt pad onto which you drop a few...

Need a new video card 2D is the most important factor

Matrox (G400 Max is nice); Radeon as above. Early Nvidia cards did not have great 2D; Nvida may not be your first choice for your particular applications.However, it is card dependent.

25 pack of T5 Fluorescent lamps (12") $2.99+ship Home Depot!

I am purchasing these and a few other bulbs on the assumption that a/ they will arrive with minumal breakage and b/ that each package has 25 bulbs in it If not, then back to my local Depot. If that does not work, then I am only out abour $5 over the usual price.

If I remember correctly, XP Prof is required for true dual (2) processor motherboards. Dual processors is different from Hyperthreading. Dual means two CPUs on the same motherboard.

I would not spend the extra money on the 3.x E or even a 3.x EE. I doubt that you will see much of a difference if you can overclock your current chip (and memory) to 3.x. Tstep's post concludes that with a ratio change, it does not sound like your memory is keeping you back. And, I cannot tell...
