    AMD Black Edition motherboard recommendation

A friend of mine is looking to build around the new AMD Black Ed. proc. The main thing we're uncertain about is what kind of board would work best for overclocking such a beast. He wants to overclock.

Help with german umlauts on USA XP install (ö ä ß etc.)

flexy, do you know if many of the indexers automagically add the 'de-umlauted' version of a keyword when they index, such as 'Die Bücher' would get indexed with 'Die Bücher' and 'Die Buecher'? I haven't looked at indexers in about 8 years, so I have no idea what they're doing these days.

    X-QPack, HR-03 on a X1950Pro

I had looked at that case before. IIRC, I think it's a couple of inches longer, but the rest was pretty much the same. Your card looks like it fits much like mine. What I don't like, and makes me wish I had picked up a HIS, is that the blower pushes the air to the front rather than the rear...

Case: X-Qpack 1 Mobo: Gigabyte G33M-DS2R PSU: Corsair HX520 Video Card: Sapphire X1950PRO Has anyone tried to put a Thermalright HR-03 in a case like this? I want to find a good silent solution to cooling the GPU that will fit in case with such clearance. I don't mind drimmeling, but the...

Corsair 520HX vs OCZ StealthxStream 600w

From the forum reading I've done as research for my PSU(Corsair HX520), both FSP and Seasonic have excellent reputations for PSU's. I'm reluctant to poo-poo FSP over my one experience with them, but I got their pooper 530w. It sounded like enough power, only to find it was distributed all...

Please help me choose a PSU?

I'll throw in another vote for the SST50EF. I've been very impressed by how stable it is under load. Their "shorter cables" will still connect most everything in a mid-tower ATX and smaller.

    memory problems on lenovo t60

I would first reseat the RAM. You can look at the factory chip for comparison. Have you tried taking out the 512MB and run with just the Buffalo? Did you verify the Buffalo timings to be the same as what's currently in there? Normally, I would suggest going with a more name brand RAM...

    Mixed Ram Brands, same timings...

One thing I found out after posting is that Lenovo's factory RAM module was made by Micron, and Kingston uses Micron chips as well. So we have two modules made by different companies with the same chips. At this point, I'm seriously thinking that it is an OS issue dressed in hardware symptoms.

    Mixed Ram Brands, same timings...

Kingston has RAM for Lenovo T60's that are matched down to the submodel number. We've had a number of these purchased for our T60's at work (all the same model/submodel). 2 of the machines experience OS hangs intermittently (screen freeze, no BSOD) when the upgrade in placed in their machines...

It has certainly been a learning experience for myself, reading how some reviews(especially the big roundups) can get quite fraught with delays due to NDA's, driver/BIOS/HW revisions, and flat out non-communication with companies concerning their product. For one company's product alone could...

I only have marketing pictures to go by(oddly enough, with no common mobo orientation) and I'm trying to see the diff. b/w Sapphire's PCI-E X1 location and Abit's. I think I see sound headers/connectors between the 1x and end of the board, but I'm not sure if that's what you're talking about...

Did Lenovo just kill the "original" T-series thinkpad?

One good thing about the T61's is that they'll drive down the price of the T60's even further. I've used a 1951FS1 for about a year now and have been quite pleased with it, except for some of the Thinkvantage bloatware.

Is there anything wrong with the Southern US?

    Wireless PCI card for Vista?

I'm building a new mATX system and currently have a D-Link G520b. D-Link's beta drivers work, but only at 54Mbs. Can anyone recommend a good PCI wireless card that's compatible with the DGL-4300 in Super G mode with non-beta Vista drivers?

I'm trying to time how long an application takes to complete. Unfortunately, the program in question (Zenworks Personality Migration(or Desktop DNA)) has no useful timer or even a progress bar. Since I never know when it'll finish, the process takes quite a while, and I don't want to stand...

Really? I've been pestering Gary for about a month about the g965, 960G, and mATX roundup. Glad to see I wasn't the only one. A classy case has eluded me for ages, but the ugly ones keep showing up. I remember wishing Lian-Li had another mATX case other than the V300-A I was looking at...

    Lightweight Reliable Notebook

I'd go with the Lenovo Thinkpad X60's. It's 2.7lbs. and the keyboard is a good size. I'd tack on the hi-cap battery for $10 more, 2GB RAM and upgrade to a 7200RPM drive. The downsides aside from integrated graphics is no integrated optical drive and a 12.1" screen. The battery life with...

Damn. If the PSU on the MX6 is worth anything, I might have gone with that. I had originally wanted a Cooler Master Mars in there, but saw the inside and cursed. If someone does figure out how to keep it structurally sound and put larger HSF's in there, lemme know. :-)

Best heatsink for P5B-VM + Ultra Microfly (or X-Qpack) based SFF

Here's what I was talking about. I think it confused me a little because it defines the TJunction as a MSR with a preset constant, then there are two MSR's who report the delta of each core. However, in the program, it just says core1 or core2. I can't tell if those two are already calculated...

Best heatsink for P5B-VM + Ultra Microfly (or X-Qpack) based SFF

Shabby I get the feeling that information being reported by the PC Probe and Coretemp isn't complete as per that formula I offered. You shouldn't be able to run a CPU below ambient temperature with just the 7700. Maybe with a peltier system or something with refrigeration. I'm afraid you...

Doh, I'm used to what the old PC Probe looked like. *smacks head*. That's the first time I've seen the chipset run hotter than the cpu. 16C or 19C... I can't keep my Northwood below 32C. What's the ambient in your room?

This may be out-of-scope for this thread, but I was wondering what your thoughts were on the new 690G chipset that AMD just put out? Are you pretty much invested in the P5B, or is that still up for debate? I've never made an AMD system before, but was pretty impressed with the numbers. I'm...

Best heatsink for P5B-VM + Ultra Microfly (or X-Qpack) based SFF

Shabby. I'm a little shaky on how to interpret what Coretemp is displaying. According to the site, I should read the core temp = tjunction - delta. Either assuming that the delta is core0-1, each core would be 85-11 = 74C? Splitting that in half would bring it more in-line with my Northwood...

LF a laptop for college work

Assuming you want a non Vista system, this is how I'd prioritize it. 1. It's under budget, not right at it. 2. A good manufacturer warranty(not a store warranty). 3 years parts and labor, plus accidental if they offer. Make sure it's all manufacturer issued. It might prevent you from...

I thought that normally, you couldn't cool something past ambient. Odd. Then again, I ran Fedora 6 on a T60 that was convinced I was running a non-existent add-on video card at -198F. *shrug* I saw the coretemp screenshot, what was PC Probe showing? I have a P4C800D I use PCP on, but...

Thanks, MrNeutrino. I've been checking out the Silverstone ST50EF-Plus. JonnyGuru.com was happy with it, but I want modular cabling. The Corsair looks good, especially if it's more quiet than my current candidates. Aesthetically speaking, it matches the case in terms of color as well.
