Well placed fine and great gent. I'm only a humble screenwriter and could work well in either the MAC or PC environment.
Yet, I do so LOVE the PC and all it's interchangeable ultra-high speed componentry.
LTT is simply TAKING your money.
And they are very happy to do just that.
If you decide against using your own brain, and jump on the nearest bandwagon, every smarter individual on this planet will extract money from you on a daily basis.
Stand up, SAY NO and use your own brain! :)
Pictures that prove Rocket Lake was an amazing platform if you grabbed the right mobo and right mem kits - I realize for most enthusiasts RKL was a true dud, but it didn't have to be.
So many enthusiasts, like yourself don't know about the Hynix DJR DDR4 kits and how well they overclock with...
I've ran AMD graphics cards for the last 10years. Only recently moved to an Nvidia workstation card because the AMD update from my AMD WX-4100 only uses 4lanes and 4GB of memory. And honestly, it's kinda ugly.
Whereas NVidia is offering an SFF workstation card with 12GB of memory and uses all...
RKL was extremely poor, unless you grabbed an ROG Z590 Apex motherboard and a small number of very QVL specific high-speed mem kits. ;)
Haters gonna hate, I guess.
5066 CL17, 5333 CL19, 5600 CL20, 5866 CL21 all possible with ambient air.
I LOVE IT! :p
Made the move to open air chassis sometime in 2015 with a CaseLabs S8 test bench, does anyone remember those?
Then grabbed a 2nd CL test bench, and currently using a Dimastech Mini V2 test bench as 2ndary rig and the Primochill SX Pro test bench as primary rig.
Ah, those builds...
I seem to be the odd man out with RKL, must've gotten lucky. ;)
I do know of another enthusiast "there is another" who purchased the same motherboard and same mem kit as I did, only change - he's using an 11900K, and he's able to achieve ALL my results along with the 6133Mhz super mem speed...
My twenty cents:
If you upgrade every other gen, only purchase the odd number chipsets.
Z390 Z590 Z790 Z990 Z1190
Coffee Rocket Raptor Arrow Nova
I don't even know which is tik and which is tok anymore, but the even number chipsets seem to always introduce brand new tech, often times not...
Does the term naff equal daft? I don't know UK lingo. lol :)
I may be the only enthusiast who had a positive experience with Rocket Lake, only purchased the inexpensive i5 11600K for $300, because there was no way the thermally inefficient cores of the 11900k were going to compose my very 1st...
Such an exciting time to be an enthusiast. Processors from both camps should be outstanding. :p
Wanna know a very cool little factoid about my Rocket to Raptor transition?
There's no need to disassemble or drain the loop to install a new motherboard, CPU, DDR5, PCIe 5.0 SSD, simply lift the...
Isn't Raptor Lake the very last monolithic CPU from Intel for desktop? Meteor Lake begins the chiplet gen. Doesn't using chiplets like AMD has been doing for some time now increase memory latency times?
I remember dropping into the mid 30s in nanoseconds with Coffee Lake, now it's the upper 40s...
LOL. We could at least discuss what each of us is planning.
What components are on your purchase list for the Raptor Lake update?
What I'm hoping for:
-Asus ROG Z790 Apex motherboard - hoping ROG adds onboard support for PCIe 5.0 M.2 SSDs, at least the one slot occupying the "north bridge"...
Just passed the 30day return window with the A2000, no issues at all so - time for some mods. :p That copper mod is only $18.99. There's also a fan cable mod, simply running the GPU fan using an external cable to the Aquaero 6 LT fan controller...
The RTX A2000 12GB does not bring the greatest efficiency the miners are (or once were) looking for. The miners want the A2000 6GB version and were buying them up by the hundreds of thousands at one time, that's why I had to wait and wait for 9months to receive my workstation card.
My college...
The RTX A2000 12GB variant arrived about 3weeks ago. Prior to that I was running an AMD WX-4100 (Polaris) Radeon Pro for 5.5years. The A2000 12GB only became available in North America in May 2022.
The build also began air-cooled, then moved to custom water.
Addendum: updated to the newest...
And you can only imagine which keyboard design works best with a Typewriter Build.
It's got to offer very comfortable switches able to use over long hours with very slight actuating feedback points.
And those keyboards are never cheap.
Two statistical scientific apps, Scrivener writing, Final Draft 12 screenplay, Microsoft Office 2021 - Word and Excel, common applications...
My PC is basically a Typewriter Build. A water-cooled Typewriter Build. ;)
The 13900KS will be my 1st 8core processor and I've already made the decision not to overclock it. It's a work computer that doesn't rely on sustained CPU loading, only need quick bursts of ST performance while working. Coupled with a new PCIe 5.0 NVMe SSD and the fastest Gskill Hynix DDR5 kit...
From your perspective, you may be correct.
Yet the logical response would be - it's simply too early to determine, and "noticeable" sounds quite subjective at best.
From my perspective, moving from a Rocket Lake i5 11600K at 5.5Ghz to a Raptor Lake 13900KS at 5.8Ghz, if the early rumors are...
I plan on disabling all E-cores and only running the 13900KS 8 P-cores at stock, along with Enhanced Thermal Velocity Boost if my very short single-radiator water loop can handle the load. ROG bios rates the loop at 184 cooling points.
Have no idea if that cooling value is substantial enough to...
And here's the business side of the water loop. Noctua 140mm Industrial fans and HWL 280mm SR2 Multiport rad with Alphacool Phobya gaskets.
NO Reservoir. I just didn't want one, and they aren't necessary. And the D5 pump is around back, external and fully isolated. :)
Sometimes, you like a...
I'll run those benchmarks next week for you, no problem, I use that ROG riser card for all testing so my work setup on a separate SSD does not get corrupted. I'll send the benchmarks to your mailbox. :)
Not here I haven't posted. I posted at ROG. I'll put up some screenshots of the DDR4 speeds, but I don't want to hijack the OP's thread - we are here to help him after all.
5333Mhz CL19, 5600Mhz CL20, and 5866Mhz CL21 are all very stable and easily achievable with the Gskill F4-5333C22D-16GTES...
Yes, 2dimm slots vs 4dimm slots "in theory" increases the ability to reach higher stable mem frequencies.
Only 2-dimm slots on the motherboard, that third slot is for what Asus calls a DIMM.2. It's a simple riser card that can mount (2) NVMe M.2 SSDs, pretty cool but as you can see I'm not...
Agree 100%! :)The 2nd half of this year, is such an outstanding time to buy a new CPU whether Intel or AMD, don't buy Alder Lake, when you can get 15% greater single thread and 30% greater multithread performance for about the same money. And Raptor Lake will be the "very last" monolithic Intel...
Well, my two cents, if you enjoy playing with superfast memory and tweaking around a bit in your bios, I would strongly consider an ROG Maximus motherboard. Yea I know they can be pricey, but if your daily apps benefit from high-mem bandwidth.
For my needs using my rig as a work computer, I'd...
