Hey bigboxes, My wifes PC started having this exact same issue a week or so ago. Oddly, the text reverts back to normal if you hover the mouse cursor over the text. It's almost like moving the cursor over the affected text refreshes it and fixes it. She does use Firefox, not sure what...

My E8400 seems fast enough, can't seem to justify an upgrade

I have an E8400 @ 4Ghz right now, and that's plenty fast for all the games I play. Don't do any encoding, so no need for a quad core yet. Get a SSD next, that'll be a huge jump in performance.

Core 2 Duo E8400 is same as i3 or i5?

E8400 OC to 4Ghz (air) in my machine. It's been stable since December 2008... i3-530 @ 4Ghz (air) in GF's machine. Stable since March 2010. Both machines used for gaming. No audio/video encoding/decoding, so no i7's used yet.

New Steam sucks

Way to put two and two together there, heh... Sounds like you need to reformat your system and start with a clean slate. OS's get pretty bogged down after a year of use (old drivers, possible malware and viruses, cluttered hard drive, etc), so it's a good idea to reformat at least once a year...

Borderlands Co-op question (1 copy)

Give it a try, Borderlands doesn't come with any sort of copy protection (no CD key, etc), so I don't see why it wouldn't work.

What's a good mild mutiplayer flight sim game?

Try Wings of Prey. There's a demo out on Steam. Seems fairly mild, but I've only played the demo. I'm not a big flight sim guy, but my buddy raves about Wings of Prey and is always trying to get me to buy it so we can team up in multiplayer. I haven't tried the multi, but I hear it's quite fun.

Crysis 2

I agree, I loved playing Crysis and Warhead as "The Predator," ambushing all those North Korean soldiers and vanishing into the jungle under a hail of gunfire. It was like a vacation on that beautiful island, serene/calm one moment, and chaos/pandemonium the next. And in the game.

After watching Avatar, gaming in 3D could potentially be really cool.

Please help me run my games.

Tell us the extent of the reformat you did. Did you patch windows before plugging it into the internet? Are you behind a router and firewall? Just because you reformatted doesn't mean you can't get infected within minutes of hooking a "clean" computer up to the internet.
