Question All-in-one printer recommendation?

Per title. My trusty old Canon MX870 seems to be on it's last leg ... it no longer prints color, tho black is fine. I suspect the issue is the generic ink carts I've been buying. I could go get a set of Canon inks and see if that fixes things but if it doesn't I've got $60 in ink I can't use...

Brand new hardware, brand new blank SSD, tried the Win10 install disk I made in 2015. So installing on top of a Win7 install that was on different hardware isn't the issue.

Oh, shoot. I just checked on the box ... I got the fancy box w/the booklet and everything so I figured it is retail, but on the label above the key it says OEM. Oh well. I haven't paid for an OS in 10 years, and probably won't for the next 10 years, so I suppose I can kick $140 to MS.

BTW my mobo is this: ASUS M4A88TD-V EVO/USB3, so it has 2 pci slots. if a cheaper 2x card solution will give me better performance than a single more expensive card i'm game for that too. My only big requirement is that the cards be quiet in non-gaming mode - my rig is currently pretty quiet...

where in win7 can i find the version for my printer driver?

I've looked everywhere and can't find it - not in device manager, not in system information, not even in the registry. any ideas? (i just bought a new printer and want to figure out if the drivers that came w/it are the latest, or if i should install the drivers off the web site)

I just getting going on Win 7 and one of the things I don't like is how it does networking. Win XP was simple - all I had to do was right-click on a folder and share it on the network. With Win 7 sharing isn't available unless I enable the home network. Then it seems like EVERYTHING is shared...

If I let my machine store cookies, can those be used to crack my passwords? I'd like to just stay logged into a site rather than having to re-login every time I open the browser, but not if cookies are a gapping security hole.

Thanks, that makes a lot of sense. Sounds like I should just leave the reserved partition - it's not hurting anything and may help out some day. As far as IDE vs. AHCI, the install is pretty painless, I'm tempted to just clear the partitions and try again w/AHCI enabled from the start.

For an embossed disc age shouldn't matter, and while there are a few very small scratches visible on the WinXP disc there is nothing that looks like it should render the disc unreadable. For most of it's life the disc has sat quietly in its original case on my bookshelf. BTW both of the drives...
