I'm looking into buying the Western Digital 80GB Special Edition. But I've been snooping around forums and it seems that the WD Special Edition's failure rate is pretty high! Can someone confirm this? Should I just buy the regular WD drive with no 8mb cache?
i remember getting this message in win2k and was taught how to disable it from asking u again.. if u want to renew or change the password.
but it has slipped my mind. any help for disabling this in winxp?
thanks!
well this would be a kick in a butt for those running cyber cafe and gaming zone cafe. they leave their comp 24/7 and you can't really consider them servers.
i dunno.. but maxtor has been faithful to me
i run fserve every weekend and download daily off irc. the 20gig drive i'm using right now is over 1 1/2 years old.

i'm guessing you have the HP 7200 burner (or something close). i had the same problem during summer. i guess it's time for it to retire (mine died after 2 years too! can u believe i paid around $400CND for one of these back then! argh).
i've formatted. installed it onto another computer and it...
can u restore it back to the old firmware? or is the drive dead dead because it didn't finish flashing to the new one?
u can try and pull it out of your system and put it into another one and try flashing there.
To ppl who are trying to use Clone CD with the LiteOn 24x!
have you guys tried going to LiteOn's site and download their latest firmware upgrade for this drive? I heard it fixes some reading problems.
Pls tell me if the new firmware fixes the CloneCD problem because I really want to get one...
haha... that's a good one!

my friend asked me to recommand her computer parts for a full comp. she wanted something mid range $ and would last. she also likes to game somewhat (CS, Ruins....etc).
so i came up with this:

i don't know what's everyone's fuss is about finding these systems. There's tons at asian malls (some even offer free mod to the Game Cude and PS2 to play backups and imports).

i was looking at the same thing yesterday...
ah... so many new cd-rw to choose from and not enough reviews :(

I was being a wise guy and started messing around with my virtual memory settings in Win2k.
I enter 0mb because I wanted to see what would happen. So it actually erased all the other settings within virtual memory. And now my machine kinda acts all funny.
Could someone please go into their...
em... The last time I checked.. Nope. I didn't need to open any ports for CS. Just ran it and it connected to servers.
edit: mines a linksys though so i dunno if there's a difference
well.. on win2k i didn't see any performance increase and i didn't like much of the new feature, which are all disabled now. Those thing i have disable are auto image resize, that menu u get when u place mouse ontop of picture and cookie blocking (since i find cookie to be usful for some sites i...
i say go with the crucial brand.
the most popular would be "PC133 CAS 2" it's the best for gamers etc.....
ECC is for Servers. CAS 3 Can't be overclocked that much compared to CAS 2.
theirs a certain order u need to install the stuff to make the card not screw or freeze.
i use this. it works great:
1) win2k
2) SP1/SP2 update
3) DX8a
4) via drivers (or whatever chipset you have drivers such as amd drivers)
5) radeon drivers
6) all other hardware
ah.. did a format and forgot how to get rid of the log-on screen for win2k. the screen were u have to type a password or press enter to continue using win2k.
thanx!
You sure this is a problem with the win2k? I didn't install anything (not even the logitech software) and my mouse wheel works great in counterstrike (great for switching weapons). I turn the wheel to choose which weapon to use and press on the wheel to select that weapon.
buy yourself a router (smc = cheap) and save yourself the trouble and time.
<< Ugh i just finished routing my house with cables and now my cable modem doesnt wanna connect to the server. Dammit this sucks. >>
i think this is the deal. cable provider rely on the stupidity and trust of its customer to tell them if you have extra IPs or not. so if your provider is that dumb you can have a hub with different ip for each computer without paying extra. but i have heard that some providers do check...

yes. Try Sisoft Sandra Pro. Works great to find the ram type and make.

What order are you installing the VIA drivers in? I have a TBird 1.0ghz and KT7 running Win2k Pro. I have always followed this pattern for a fresh install.
1)format install partition during Win2k Setup as NTFS.
2)as SOON as your desktop is up and running...
i had this problem once last summer after i formated and putted the os back. i got pissed and just formated again because I have nothing to loose. after the second format it worked flawlessly..... Not sure if it's caused so much by the driver but the stupid MS OS.
