DFI NF2Ultra and external USB 2.0 HDD problem

I had been running my LanParty NF2 Ultra in non-RAID, but I decided it was a shame to waste the RAID feature. I am running in RAID 0 and everything works awesomely except for my USB 2.0 Maxtor. XP shows it in the Device Manager, but doesn't create a volume for it. Anyone have any suggestions on...

Any way to check the CPU temp on my ECSK7S5A w/o going into the bios?

I'm using 2x92mm Sunons in the side of mine. One blows right into the top of my CPU cooler and the other blows right across my video card. My case temp never gets above 80F. It usually sits right around 74-76. The Glaciator should be doing a better job of cooling your CPU. Did you use thermal...

ABIT KR7A-133 or IWILL XP333 ? Also, which DDR ?

The XP333 finished just ever so slightly behind the KT266a boards in multimedia benchmarks at factory settings, but left them all behind after a little overclocking. The 266a boards couldn't compare when it came to IDE throughput either. I own both an XP333 and a Shuttle AK31a, and I must admit...

Any way to check the CPU temp on my ECSK7S5A w/o going into the bios?

Download Motherboard Monitor5 from here. It is pretty accurate. As far as your temps go, they are within limits, but a little high for my taste. I have my 1.33 running at 1.85v and mine runs 36 idle and 39 load. You are probably safe, but I would recommend some better cooling. What are you using...

Iwill xp333 makes AMD 1.0 to over 1.53

My Iwill XP333 will take my 1.33AYHJA to 1638(156x11) with plain old Crucial PC2100, but is isn't stable. I run it at 1503(167x9) all day long rock solid. I would be willing to bet that with better RAM I could crank the FSB up and get over 1600MHz stable. Those 1G AXIA's are known for there...

    MOBO FOR ATHLONXP + PC2700

The Iwill XP333 is designed for DDR333. It will handle 166FSB and higher. You can set the AGP/PCI dividers to 1/5 at 166MHz FSB, and 1/6 at 200MHz FSB, and the rest of your system will remain completely in spec. The only thing that is overclocked is the processor and memory. If you look at my...

Serious XP333-R Stability Problems--Sound related? Please help!

What are your BIOS settings? I doubt it is the onboard sound, as I play Q3 Urban Terror for hours a day on my XP333 with onboard sound and have never had a problem. If anything, it is probably your PSU or your old vid card. I would be more inclined to say the vid card. Did you install the latest...

    Which is better?

Even with SDRAM, the ECS board would have better performance at factory settings. I'm not familiar with how overclockable the 8KTA3 is, but considering it is Epox, I would imagine that it OC's decently.

Frequent Lock ups with FSB set to 133MHz (IWILL KK266-R w/ Athlon XP 1700+)

I had one of these boards and never had a problem, but there are quite a few peeps over at amdmb.com that are reporting the same problem you are having. It appears that your mobo isn't properly setting the PCI/AGP divider when you change the jumper from 100 to 133. It is pretty much OCing your...

HSF on VIA northbridge (ABIT KT7A)

You may be O.K. for a while if you have good case cooling, but obviously it was put there for a reason. I suggest getting another chipset fan(I think they are like 45mm or something), or get a ThermalTake blue or crystal orb and replace the HSF and everything. Just my .02, Jeff

I am going be ordering a motherboard/cpu combo from mwave. have a quick question....

I ordered a combo from mwave a while back and I believe it came with a HSF. I wouldn't plan on using it if I were you. They are pretty much as low performance and generic as you can get. I personally wouldn't use one if I palnned on keeping my CPU for more than a couple of days. I believe you...

    K7S5A and CPUFSB?

I'm assuming the "little tool" you are referring to is CPU Cool? I toyed around with it a bit and it worked OK. I was able to get my 1333 to 1430, but that was about it. It is kinda querky, but I just had to keep messing around with it. I was also using the OCing BIOS, but I don't think that...

Unlocking an XP isn't that hard if you have decent eyesight and a steady hand. You can check out some detailed instructions here. As for you mobo choice, I am an XP333 owner and I am absolutely pleased with mine. I am using standard Crucial PC2100 and I am running at 155FSB. With some true...

is there an athlon mobo that can use DDR333?

The Iwill XP333 does not need to be overclocked to use DDR333, it is designed for it. The setting is right in the BIOS. It has AGP/PCI dividers that go all the way to 1/6, so your PCI and AGP busses stay in spec while your CPU and Memory run at 166(333DDR). I have this board and I must say that...

    Good motherboard?

The Iwill XP333 is an awesome board. It comes with 6.1 surround sound and the Softmenu II BIOS for some pretty Xtreme overclocking. Best AMD ----NON-VIA---- board?

I would definitely recommend the Iwill XP333. I have my board running a 1.33AYHJA @156x10=1560 with regular old Crucial PC2100. I will be getting a stick of PC2700 in the next couple of weeks and I plan on taking this baby past 166. The onboard 6.1 surround sound is the best integrated audio...

Help me pick a good non-DDR Athlon motherboard with sound!

I was also going to recommend the KK266. I had the RAID version and it was one of the best boards I have ever owned. I was able to get 1554 rock solid out of my 1333 AYHJA with my Iwill. The onboard 4.1 sound was the best integrated sound I've ever experienced. Jeff

Is it possible to replace mobo & CPU w/o reinstalling OS?

I've gotten it to work once in ME by manually removing every device from the device manager then replacing the board. When it rebooted, it detected and installed all of the new devices, but there is quite a bit of bloating involved. XP was a major headache and turned out to be more trouble than...

Gigabyte mobo is making grinding noises !

You can go with a Thermaltake Blue Orb or Crystal Orb. The Crystal Orb is probably a little bit of an overkill, but they are both very inexpensive($9-$14) and will probably cool better than the factory HSF. You can get them here. Jeff

Computer won't load, help me solve this problem :(

First, unplug the power chord and push your power on button to clear the residual power from the board. Then, clear your CMOS and reboot. Enter the BIOS and reset all of your settings. Let us know how it goes from there. Jeff

    Success with K7S5A

I have built 3 K7S5A systems to date, and I must admit, I am absolutely impressed with the performance/stabilty to cost ratio. I have had no major problems with any of them. I am dual booting ME/XP on my rig and running my 1.33 AYHJA at 1.43 rock solid. I am now in the process of building an...

K7S5A Owners--> Are you using the OC'ing BIOS? Post your comments if you are!

I'm using the OCing BIOS. I run my 1.33 AYHJA at 138/138 with Crucial PC2100 set to Cas2 and Ultra. I was able to boot into Windows at 150/150, but either my PCI and AGP busses were too out of spec, or the RAM didn't like it and it wasn't stable during benchmarking. At 1380, everything is rock...

Am I crazy for considering an Intel motherboard?

A few months ago I would have agreed that you were crazy for buying an Intel board, but I have to admit that Intel makes a stable chipset. It may not perform like an AMD system, but what good is performance when it is constantly having issues.

    Best OCing board

If you want to overclock, then by all means get a KT266a board. Unfortunately, the KT266a seems to have issues with RAID. If I were you, I would do a little research by reading the latest reviews on many different boards and drawing your own conclusions rather than asking for opinions. I can...

Actual processors aside, any performance reasons to choose Intel-based MB over AMD-based MB?

It's true that if you want performance, go with AMD. I pretty much only build AMD systems, but I must say, that with all of the chipset issues on the latest releases of AMD boards, if you want stability go with Intel. It seems that every single chipset manufacturer for AMD boards has some kind...

    K7S5A RAM configs (cl2, cl3) - (7-30-2001 BIOS)

I have overclocked my 1800+ to an 2000+! Now I need help!!!

Do you mean your system is locked up, or that the CPU is multiplier locked? Why would you need to mod your mobo? If you are talking a voltage mod, I don't recommend it unless you need it. If your CPU will operate at 2000 with the voltage you have available, don't mess with it. As for the temps...

ECS K7S5A Lockup problems - PROBLEM FIXED

It is starting to become common knowledge that the K7S5A doesn't seem to like the new Radeons. Other than that, I would start with a BIOS flash to the newest BIOS release. If that doesn't fix it, the only other likely problem would be the RAM. Jeff

    ECS K7S6A???

I'm sure there are some people out there who have had legitimate problems with ECS boards, but I have seen a lot of problem posts turn out to be something simple(weak PSU, cheap RAM, wrong BIOS settings, etc.).
