My new 74gb has no high pitch whine whatsoever. With the case open it emits muted seek noise, but it's not even as loud as my Barracuda V 120gb 8mb cache models - those have a sharper seek crunch to them.
What amazes me is how cool the thing runs... loaded WinXP onto it and played around for a...
With this card it's always best to cancel out of the initial Win2k detection and just run the latest available driver installer from Hercules later on. Rarely would I use Windows detection to install anything. And yes, I've been running the GTXP on Win2k since they first had some weird beta...
This thread is pretty funny because everyone bitches about an American company laying off employees and outsourcing to India, but no one really catches on as to WHY this had to happen. Guess who had already implemented this into their "mega extreme kickass corporate business model" early on -...
Wow I thought my last purchase there was just a fluke. I ordered an Eizo T966 21" CRT and it arrived in a box with a ghetto taping on the outside, NO styrofoam supports on the top of the monitor, the clear plastic bagging around the monitor was completely off - down underneath the monitor...
The Crucial PC2700 I got a few weeks back was actually Samsung. I used the memory finder and chose the Asus A7N8X board and got Samsung - instead of the Infineon like they sent me a few weeks prior to that when I chose an older MSI board.
<< Does the mobo make a difference as to how much memory is cached through the OS? Or does it not play a role at all? >>
Only if you're talking ~1996 chipsets (for the amount of memory you are using here).
Is the performance of these new Intel Pro/100 S desktop adapters just as good as the Pro/100+ or Pro/100B cards were (for home, unencrypted use), or is the new chipset optimized for encryption which makes it take a performance hit?
You can find these in the $30 range so I don't mind paying a...
There really isn't any reason to take off the non-latched side for a normal installation. The latched side will have 2 or 3 screws up and down the vertical edge in the rear. Just remove those. The latch slides gently forward and then the whole side will come outwards from the rear with the...
K7 Master has the multiplier change and also integrated sound. The only special thing on your case has to be the I/O panel. On my Antec SX1240 it fit right into place with the universal I/O panel that came with it.
Just disable with a jumper if you don't want to use it.
Speed in 2D? Your Samsung 900NF will be much friendly paired up with the Matrox G450 than any of the Nvidias. Not really a very fair competition between the two when it comes to 2D image quality.
I haven't heard of anyone having a problem with the 760 boards. These guys just did some testing on a few boards and found no problems with them:

Mike,
Yes, the amdmb forum post was also the K7 Master using the Switech MC370 and probably a delta because he said it has a 4 pin connector.
This is another post from amdzone that was comparing his temps to mine:
"That's about right. I'm runing a 133/266 with the PAL6035 but with a Delta...
Mike,
I set up the SX1240 case with two 80mm fans blowing in from the front and two 80mms sucking out the rear. One of the front 80mm's is directly inline with the rear 80's blowing straight across top of the fan on the heatsink, so all the hot air should be getting sucked out the back, or...
From the Arctic Silver II instructions: "Properly lapped heatsinks with mirror finishes will only require a translucent haze."
I set up my Alpha PAL6035 w/Adda 28.3cfm, followed the AS II directions and pretty much made it look exactly like the picture they show. My 1000mhz C-AXIA on...
That Alpha PEP66 heatsink isn't a very good choice for the K7 Master. The fan would end up blowing straight into the ATX power connector, assuming there's even enough space to fit there. They are pretty close cut around the CPU socket. I got a PAL6035/Adda fan. You could just add the quiet...
I personally like the MSI K7T Turbo and would go with the IBM 36LZX. Both are very reliable. The 36LZX is very quiet/cool and right now the pricing is really good because they are coming out with the 73LZX soon.
If you want extremely quiet, take a look at the Fujitsu 10k drives - priced even...
