Why is the ECS Socket A K7S5A SiS® 735 chipset so popular?

i think rabid dragon is talking about the KT266A. those wont be out until november if i am correct.

DFX won't work while Playing CDs but will work while playing MP3s.. Why?

simple really, since the CD-rom drive is sending data the computer can not buffer the .wav file because DFX and Winamp are really MP3 enhancers. even with out DFZ put a CD in and you CAN NOT change the EQ...well you can but it has no effect. youd need like a plug in for the windows CD...

Got me some new toys to OC my rig

same set up here, but my damn mobo only has the VIA KT133 not the KT133A so im stuck with about a 105 - 107 FSB. but the multiplier is at 9 and i run solid at 38 degrees and 42 loaded. not bad but i also have a custom case. but yeah clean the old compund off no matter what! nail polish remover...

Slot 1/A retention bracket???

basically i just am finishing an old 333 Celeron system with a mobo that has no retention, do i need one? please answer fasT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Damn im addicted to computers 4 of them now!

Abit makes exactly what you are looking for, and with Abit's slotkets you get all those nifty voltage jumpers and stuff.

installing hs/fan

Best bet is to take the "pad" off, should easily come off with rubbing alcohol and some paper towel, just dont use Kleenex tissue, as it is really linty in nature. Also maybe getting some 1500 or more grit sandpaper to "buff" the surface. Get some decent thermal grease, i...

New radio shack thermal paste any good ??

i have run a test of sorts on this as my Duron 800 runs 945 with temps about 39 degrees, now my parents computer (which i also built) contains all the same parts as mine, but stays at 800. Well to test the temps i raised theirs to 945 like mine, they have the same HSF's but theirs has the Arctic...

what is the I/0 voltage for? Can i up this on my kt7a?

i actually have the same board and it allows 3.3 or 3.45 which is really like 3.50 and it runs so much stabler with my PC150 ram...but i also upped the FSB making the Video card o/c'ed as well...but none of my cards cry about extra volts

Poll: Opinions on the Athlon 4.

well AMD needs to start worrying about the tualtulan...AMD needs a 64 bit processor to help them float in the server field, AMD and servers arent too happy right now especially since this INTEL tualtulan

Processor Upgrade possible???

update to the newest available BIOS and try to install a Celeron 2. (500 and up basically) they should work but you might need a Slotket adapter to make the newer slot chips fit INTEL major mess up known as the slot.

thermal paste and AMD's

im running a overclocked duron from 800 to 950 and a celeron 600 to 966, both using radio shack goop with little troubles as of 5 months on the duron and 7 on the celery. plus my celery runs 3 degrees cooler than my friends celery (equally equipped mobo, ram, and HSF) only difference is he uses...

Stupid question, probably not the last...

its right....need a mobo! well to check the flow, there should be 2 arrows on the fan case...one telling the direction of rotation, the other tell which way the air will flow (push to)

Serious Temperature Question (and new guys, read here to learn with me...)

Yeah Radio Shack sells good thermal paste...and in tests on my computer it keeps it cooler than Arctic Silver 2...but thats only my computer

PLEASE give advice to a new overclocker =)

with SDram you cant hit 266...only 133...not 100% sure...and the CPU wouldnt run right if you set it to 266, it can only handle 200...ass listed.

Too Hot? Idle= 36 C and system 27 C temps. Duron 800 no overclocking

well with a crappy orb cooler that is what i was getting with my 800 stock...but dont O/C it much with an orb. most likelly the shutdown thing is Win related...maybe your DMA isnt on...i used to have problems like that...now im a solid Linux Man EDIT....36 idle is alright...i think i was...

I dont use Arctic Silver...it works good, but i get the same results with the normal Radio Shack stuff...same temps

Help change my P3 system to AMD TB!

your gonna need alot more...DELL makes things so they need DELL specific drivers most of the times...but what is left after the tear out, Hardware should be fine, but remember you need a REAL win98/SE/2k to install (if you chose the weak and slow windows, try linux, comparing both my duron 800...

onboard sound doesn't work when OC'ing

yeah common problem...might be with the FSB settings it gets all messed up, just either pick up a cheap sound card or splurge and get a new fancy schmancy one. i had that problem once on my AMD, but i just downloaded the new drivers, and by mere luck it fixed it.

Question about overclocking

FSB will kill the RAM...but shouldnt hurt the CPU, unless you put way to much voltage to it...which makes heat, the only thing bad for CPU components, and RAM is heat...might think about getting some RAM chip coolers if you are gonna try 148...that is if it posts...you need some top quality ram...

CPU Temp???

ok in Sandra2001SE go to the CPU&BIOS info module...then scroll down a tiny bit and its in the Environment monitors area...thats for the CPU core temp. for all of the sensors click on the Mainboard info module, scroll down and its in the Temperature sensors area... this might be a newer...

Nero problems...

4824guy knows it, did you know that MP3 is a lossy format? very lossy, what it does is take a 5 minute 50M file and smash (read remove the sampling rate...and put it lower, hopefully 128, as this seems the best) it to 4-5M. now think if a program can compress it to 10% of its original size...

about the post....a continuous beep means RAM? well i can attest to this being FALSE, i just got done messing with a new system with mis=seated RAM... no beeps nothing.

44 idle and 66 under load - Update and Fix and Link - Thanks everyone.

maybe because you have a crappy hsf? maybe bad case airflow?...come on think whenever something cant get air it gets hotter, and when it works hard it gets exponetially hotter.

MSI K7T Pro2-A + 1.3ghz Thunderbird = Help!!!!!!

Can I desolder a PCI connecter and put in an ISA connector

dude save the time and worry and get PCI components, they run faster...and Linux likes them more...plus ISA is dying out and fast. usually only NIC cards are ISA now, so go out and purchase a new NIC for $15 or less

time to get a totally scsi system buddy, why waste time and money on an ide system, ide systems arent really made for servers, go to any company and look at there servers, NO ide anywhere, most scsi boards out now are expensive, as are the drives, but scsi is better for business apps. you could...

Ep-8k7a plus AMD 1.2 266 =?

well just see, worse comes to worse try flashing the bios with the newest version, and i have seen the new Epox 8k7a+ with a 1.4 on it, basically it should work. good luck

Need a little advice

Jeez man, dont ever use an ORB! dont you read the reviews? they may look cool, and the theory is good, but the design as it stands now sucks! i personally think for staying cheap get a Volcano2, its quiet in my computer with its case off, and cost me $23 from a local vendor, so online expect...

celeron 700

Nucro is very correct, the 700 is actually just a 600 (which is a new chip speed, not just an OC'ed 500) with the internally locked multiplier reset by Intel, kinda like the old 3DFX chips, the voodoo3 3000 ran at 145MHZ, but to get a 3500 you start at 160MHZ, same chips made on the same lines...

Help - unable to get over 133FSB on K7 Turbo

according to hardocp.com the k7t has the via133 chip, but to get above 132 you need the newer version the via133A which sadly most people cant just go and buy and solder in, but mobo prices are down alot lately....

Is Socket 370 and FC-PGA mobo connection the same thing as far as hsf ?

Yup they work i own a duron and a celeron that i have many times interchanged hsf's between the 2 just remember duron/t-birds run hotter so if its made for the AMD's it will easily take a p3 or celeron.

Vantec 7kFan Amp requirements - How much is . . .

best of going the safe way and hitting the 4 pin power supply adapter, i blew a trace once, big pain in the ass, and for some reason it made my system unstable, thanks to Ability PC in Sterling Heights MI for taking it back...since they sold me it all as a working package.

A question from a new user ME!

Come on people you should know a celeron uses 66mhz bus so that is 66*7.5, and yes Intel is locked but why not utilize the faster RAM? its what i do. increase the voltage as needed, but either set the jumper to FORCE the chip to use 100MHZ instead of 66, and that alone is 100*7.5....750... i...

What is better for oc? W2K or ME?

well if you are worried about stability, why no try the most stable OS, Linux! I personally dualboot (neccesary for some stuff) 98SE and Redhat 7.1, now i have heard W2K is the best as in stability, but i dont have a way to obtain a copy of the W2K CD. good luck, but i do notice TomsHardwae uses...

KK-266R Expert Advice Needed

This may sound odd, but its probably the RAM, i know you people think mishkin ram is some thing it isnt, if it says CAS2 that usually means CAS2 @ 133 so it will be CAS3 @150 or so, basically that is what was happening to my comp, now i have CAS2 @ 150 ram, supposedly will hit 166 or more...but...
