Actually, my mistake, I was referring in particular to the Abit IC7-G which I was about -><- close to buying last night. There are two SATA channels on the ICH5R and another two SATA that are on the PCI bus. But if you've got the *Intel* CSA Gigabit Ethernet, yeah, it should be separate buses. MM

Depends on what bus the SATA is running on. If you check out the Canterwood boards, the SATA is on the ICH5R which is *not* part of the PCI bus. So yeah, the bandwidth is definitely higher (150 instead of PCI limited 133). Unfortunately, it's also the same reason why the ICH5R only has two...

Anyone try RAID using Laptop HD's?

Well, it'd definitely be more expensive....but I think there was a Dell deal not too long ago for a decent sized 5400rpm drive with a 16M buffer. But would space really be an issue if you're trying to run RAID? MM

Trying to find a MB with 64-PCI and AGP 4x

Hahaha! Yah, completely forgot about that one =8-) But even if I went with a Tiger MP board, I'm still limited to a 1900+ I was hoping for something more like a P4 2.4G or something like that. But I guess that would do and would be cheap. MM

ugh, I was really hoping to find a nice single CPU solution..... I want to build a nice gaming rig (not overclocked), but I've got a nifty raid array that needs a 64-bit slot.

The array itself would be the expensive part. Handles are about $30/drive, plus the drives (cheap) and the controller ($100-200). *but* take a look at how much they want for their loaded arrays....you're talking a couple g's. MM

Umm, perhaps, I forgot to mention, it takes ECC RAM. Memorypro 256M 800Mhz ECC RDRAM is $86/stick and must be installed in pairs. Samsung is $109/stick and Kingston is about $105/stick (been checking all morning *g*) So it is a bit more expensive, but I'm trying to weigh all the options *g* MM

Actually it's not all that bad.... As for dual 1.7, just find someone else that's getting one....someone will definitely shell out the cash to go to dual 2.2s or faster and will have a spare 1.7. The bad part is getting RDRAM which is still really expensive.

Barebottoms: Good luck in finding something *cheap* I know Enlight makes a small U160 backplane that takes up 3 x 5 1/4" bays and has 5 spots. It's about $250 (Enlight EN-8720 I think is the model #). Otherwise go to centrix and buy one of the Intel Server cases that have it already built in...

Isn't 250MB/sec performance the absolute top speed for gigabit ethernet? 1Gbit divided by 8 bits = 125Mb * 2 (full duplex) = 250Mb I personally can't think of a single PC system that can handle that kind of bandwidth anyways. Even a 64-bit PCI interface (SCSI) card can only handle 266M max...

Trouble w/Non-disk SCSI devices on AMI Enterprise 1200 RAID

Well, I got a 2 channel AMI Enterprise 1200 RAID Controller, and all I've put on it are non-disk devices: Channel 1: 40x, 52x, DVD Channel 2: CD-RW and Tape backup Now here's the funky part...the adapter polls the channels and detects all 5 physical drives just fine when it's initializing. When...
