If I wanted to setup an Apache Web Server where would I get the software?

ameritech dsl + pppoe + linux = huh????

PPPOE is built into many newer distros... I believe its in Redhat 7.3 and above for sure... The HOWTO's were mostly written before it was included in any distro.. I think RedHat 7.3 even will walk you thorugh the setup on install...there is also a new gui for setting it up in RedHat.

KDE for solaris/sun

There is a SPARC binary copy kept on ftp://ftp.kde.org... The latest solaris version is in the stable/3.0.1 directory... its there in both pkg and tar.gz formats. That's what I run on my Ultra5 on my desk at work.. EDIT: its here - ftp://ftp.kde.org/pub/kde/stable/3.0.1/Solaris/Solaris8/

X Refresh Rates

FYI.. The next version of both RedHat and Mandrake have gui's to set up the res/colors/frequency just like Windows... right click on desktop etc.. I have played with them.. they work just fine.

did you say you used the GFORCE driver? Dude... when your in a VMWARE virtual host, you don't install the video driver for the SYSTEMS card, you install the one for the video the VMWARE virtual system emulates.. its like a S3 video card or something that it provides emulation for...

HELP NEEDED WITH NEW LINUX INSTALLATION, SCRAMBLED SCREEN

After it boots up... hit CTRL-ALT-F1 or CTRL-ALT-F2 etc... that will get you another "virtual Console" .. the Graphics is on F7... You can then login in a root, and run xf86config to redo your configuration... you can just use the generic vga driver for now...or you can go do nvidia's web site...

Which flavor linux would you recommend? Redhat 7.3 or Mandrake 8.2?

You will need to do this ahead of time and make an empty partition for Linux... use Parition Magic (my tool of choice) or something similar. Linux can boot from anydrive, and anywhere on those drives...

What's the best linux solution for replacing Windows NT BDC?

If your running AD in Domain Emulation mode... then Samba will be fine.. Also note that the new version of SAMBA is now in testing... it has full AD Support including the ability to be your whole AD infrastructure totally replacing Windows, as well as just normal authentication of users...

dumb question: How to burn Linux ISO?

Start Nero.. cancel out of any wizards and crap... Go to FILE->BURN IMAGE menu... navigate to ISO File... Click on it... there ya go.. too easy... easier than all that wizard crap.

I RARELY use windows nowdays... I used to use Windows for gaming... but now that I have a Gforce3, games are great in Linux too.. Heck, I went to a 600 person lan gaming party over the holiday weekend, and I only booted up in Linux to try out Jedi Knight... I played in several tournaments...
