    External HDD enclosure

I have found plenty of external harddrives from various manf. that claim to spin the drive down during inactivity.. I'm just not sure if that is regulated by an OS driver/utility/etc., or if it is integrated into the PCB in the enclosure itself.

    External HDD enclosure

Most of the drive enclosures I have found that are highly rated include fans, can be setup as hot-swapable, etc. etc. but I can't seem to find information if the control board in the enclosure performs spindown of the drive when not in use. I would like this to be a function of the external...

    RAID 5 vs RAID 10

If this is a database server I would go with RAID 10 (aka RAID 1+0) for performance reasons. Also, you will want to make sure if it is available to utilize separate scsi channels for the RAID1 members.

    Small Buisness VPN/NAT/Firewall

Well, I guess I am assuming that I would need the same router on both sides? The Sonicwall pro 200 looks like what most people are suggesting. Not quite out of my budget. I was hoping for something around $500 per LAN. But I guess you get what you pay for!

    Small Buisness VPN/NAT/Firewall

Do the SonicWall appliances allow the traffic to split depending on destination (www vs. LAN)? Or would all traffic from the fullfillment office go through the VPN tunnel to the main office and out from there? It seems silly to do it that way if I am not wanting to setup a single point of web...

    Dlink (DI-604 / 614+) Xbox live support

According to Microsoft the 604/614+ are not supported. I read a post from DlinkSupport where they mentioned that they were doing Beta testing at Redmond and the routers do work with Xbox Live. Can anyone confirm this? I would like to know before my ability to take my 604 back to BestBuy runs...

Okay, I just recently purchased the very inexpensive D-Link 604. I did so 100% because of its price. It was < $30 at BestBuy (after rebate). I was also looking at the linksys BEFSX41 which has true VPN & DMZ but cost 3x as much. I decided to save the extra money and am happy with my choice...

    W2K Server licensing problem

Not entirely sure if this is correct but "felt" right. If the server was sharing multiple duties then a single client could tie up more than one connection. I.E. a file is being shared of the HD at the same time it is being printed to a shared printer.

why is my cable connection slow when i am ftp to other cable users???

Cable (just like most asynchronous signals) does not PUSH data as much as it PULLS. Therefore when you (clinet) connect to a friends FTP server (server) they are having to PUSH data to your pc. They are usually around 128Kbps (kilo-BITS) which means you should expect to receive about 80% of...

    Cable internet provider?

*Actually* Generally the answer is NO. Read this article. One of the main reasons people would say that yes cable is better is due to the price/performance issue. Usually cable companies wave set-up fees etc. and monthly rates are lower. I have had zero disconnects from DSL at work and I...
