POLL: What's the Most You Paid for PC Hardware

You guys have got me beat, but I still get a laugh out of these: $200 for 4MB of RAM $220 for a 400MB HDD $1950 for a Pentium 200 system (no monitor) (I thought this was a great deal at the time).

SOUND POPS, How to assign IRQ's

SOUND POPS, How to assign IRQ's

PS. I can't change the IRQ's in windows because it won't let me uncheck "use automatic settings" on the resources tab in device manager. Also, it appears that IRQ's 2,5,7,9, and 10 are not used. Why would my computer assign 6 devices to IRQ 11 instead of using these other IRQ's?

Sandra CPU Multimedia Benchmark

Sandra says my floating point benchmark should be 8206 and I'm only getting 7478 (Athlon 1.2GHz). It used to match well and all the other CPU benchmarks are right on. Is there anything I can tweak to bring up the score?

Winmgmt.exe error over and over

My computer has been off for for 5 days and was working fine the last time I used it. I boot it up today and it gives me a bunch of WinMgmt.exe errors pretty much 1 a minute, in a any program. I turned thta program off in administrator and the errors are gone but I would like to know the root...

Win2k SP2 and ATA 100 fix...

I htink you can use the drive benchmark in Sisoft Sandra 2001 to see if your drive is running at ATA100. If it's a 7200 RPM ATA100 it should bench about 24000.

New drive not recognized

I just installed a new 2nd hard drive. It's not been formatted. Windows device manager sees it and says its working fine but it doesn't show up in My Computer with a drive letter. I think it needs to be formatted before Windows will assign it a drive letter. Can I do this within Windows...

What speed should i overclock to...

In addition to watching for instability get a temperature monitor program like Hardware Monitor and make sure you don't get too hot. I try to keep mine below 50C.

Athlon 1.3Ghz "B" chip (200mhz FSB) w/AMD 760??

I believe they will work and for $30 difference I would definitely go that route. However, when I bought my 1GHz C it was only $3 more than a B. That paid off because I got an AXIA that will do 1380MHz, no problem. I think that ship has sailed though.

$250 for a new mobo and CPU combo...what to get?

Get either an Epox 8KTA3 or IWILL KK266 and a 1GHz 266FSB Athlon. I have the Epox setup and it is extremely stable, user friendly, and easy to overclock (I'm running 150MHz FSB). I read the IWILL has all of this plus better on-board sound.

Philips CDRW 804 doesn't burn Imation CDs?

Imations don't work on my Creative 8x4x38 either. Neither do white lable Memorex. PNY with fancy colors, Prime Peripherals, and Memorex with a gold label all work good.

Somebody tell a newbie about Sisoft numbers

I got the Sisoft Sandra 2001 version and it now reads 2811 and 1361 which is very close to the reference 1GHz Athlon. Thanks again. FWIW it also makes 2941/1441 at 140MHz fsb and 3046/1492 at 145MHz fsb.

I downloaded SiSoft Sandra last night and got the following numbers for CPU Benchmark: 2866 MIPS Dhrystone 1400 MIPS Whetstones It says a Athlon 1 GHz KT133 should do 3111 and 1395, respectively. I've got Athlon 1 GHz 266FSB AXIA, KT133A, Epox 8KTA3, 128MB Crucial PC133 CL2. Any guesses on...
