For what you are doing, I would recommend the following:
dual high speed (p4s) cpu box, the best videocards with the most ram possible for 2-d apps (you could get 2 matrox cards one agp and one pci and run 4 monitors) and lots of system ram. good luck.

well your advice worked! thanks...When I start the XP machine first it connects to the network without problems and everything seems to work fine...It works fine too with W2k machines on the network. What is weird is that When I turn on a PC with (8 ( and this doesn't happen everytime)...

I don't use ICS just going through the router...I went throught the network setup wizard which turned on the XP firewall I disabled it...but still had problems....
Why would just plugging in the XP machine on the router make it work? confused.

the only problem I see is that the remote is not R/F.
I love th R/C remote that came with the ATI 8500DV. Is can basically walk around, be in my study and still FFD throught the CDs.

Will a monitor with a dvi-d cable work with a video card with a dvi-i connection?
It looks like the only difference between the 2 connectors is that in a dvi-i it has a section of holes for analog adapter connector as well as the digital, and on the dvi-d connector it only has what looks like...
