I need to change my document root in RH 7.2

The MP really is different than the XP

Linux vs. Windows98 performance on low-end system

Way to resize partitions without Partition Magic??

FIPS can split a FAT32 partition but you have to be careful, it won't check to see if you're cutting off data. Defrag first. resize2fs will move Linux ext2 partitions Also in Linux you can try LVM which is like Dynamic Disks in Win2k I think. The descriptions seem the same anyway.

Linux ftp: wu-ftpd, proftpd, or ???

I use Proftpd© I'd never touch wuftp after that RedHat fiasco© I haven't tried ncftpd but proftpd focuses on security, which is what an ftp server really really needs© If you have trouble with the default config and anon ftp, try adding some of these lines: AnonRequirePassword off...

how the fsck do you get out of emacs in linux?!!??!?

Correction: Use GVIM. Vim with a GUI. Looks like an xterm with a GTK (or Qt, Motif, whatever you tell it to use) toolbar. It helped me get over some of Vim's trickier commands. Anyone know why Emacs has a menu bar in the console when it doesn't recognize GPM?

anyone here using litestep or any other program like it?

Huh? AFAIK, Litestep can't replace Win2k's shell. It just runs on top but doesn't take over completely, so there's no preformance benefit like on Win98. So are you just running it for looks?

How do you patch the GCC file in Linux?

The patch command takes a diff file (obtained using, surprisingly, the diff command) and applies it to an older source code directory. The syntax is something like "patch -p1 < my_patch.diff" when you're in the source code directory. It might be -p0, I'm not sure. I don't have Linux...

GNOME's Control Center crashed. A seg fault means a program is trying to do something it's not supposed to and the kernel is killing it because it's acting screwy. It usually leaves a 4 MB "core" file in your home directory that developers can use to find where the program went...

What kind of partition structure do you guys use in Red Hat?

I have 6 partitions (/, swap, boot, usr, var, home). I did it that way so it would be easier to go to ReiserFS later (hard to find the time/energy). This is a 20GB drive btw.
