Mini ITX board choices are blooming

Came across this one the other day. http://www.intel.com/products/...MJ/DG41MJ-overview.htm G41 chipset, regular PCI slot, supports the -s series 65 watt quad cores, and runs about $95. Also supports up to 8GB of RAM, the other two Intel boards only support 4GB.

Geeks Refurbished 24" Soyo LCD (possibly S-MVA) - Back in Stock!

My box was marked 6ms, has a tag that marks it as a refurb, but all the packaging was sealed in the same way my original two new ones were. No signs of use, which doesn't mean it wasn't refurbished, just that it was repackaged like a new LCD. M0RPH, non-glossy screen on mine. I have no bad...

Geeks Refurbished 24" Soyo LCD (possibly S-MVA) - Back in Stock!

All of mine are marked "2007 07" as far as I can tell(one is on an LCD arm and I can't quite read it). No idea when they started the change, but the earlier date the better your chances.

Geeks Refurbished 24" Soyo LCD (possibly S-MVA) - Back in Stock!

Check the manufacture date listed on the label, that's a start. I bought two new back in '07, just bought a third that arrived today. So far so good, no dead pixels or weird lines. Same manufacture date as one of my originals, so it's also an s-mva.

I thinks I may have bought something worth a lot more then I paid for it.

GuitarPort has been out for a while, 3-4 years at least if not longer. Line 6 was a round for quite a while before the GuitarPort, though. Started out priced pretty high, then was dropped to ~$100 about two years ago. I picked one up on ebay a long time back, but haven't used it much lately. A...

Sign me up for a few of the reference boards if they can keep the price near what a Via PicoITX board costs. My current small Atom options are all around $400 and quite a bit larger at 4" x 6"(3.5" Embedded Form Factor). Hell, I could fit two of the reference boards into the space of one of the...

If you have a Harbor Freight Tools nearby, they usually have these on sale. http://www.harborfreight.com/c...m.taf?Itemnumber=39103 Not great, but will do the job. Make sure you have some C-clamps to hold the material in place, comes with a hold down bar but nothing else. I have a two foot...

    EEE vs. Mini 9

Well, I had mentioned previously I was going to a 64GB SSD in my Mini 9. That won't be happening as the new SSD is about a half inch too long to fit. Looking at a few other boards I have with the mini-PCI-e slot, it won't fit ANY of them. It will supposedly fit the EEE, but from pictures it's a...

Mini ITX board choices are blooming

I gave up on finding mini-ITX cases I like and am building my own. Seems like a majority are designed for the VIA boards, which means inadequate cooling for anything faster or a power supply that can't support much of a load. Also seen a few that mount the hard drive or CD in a place that will...

    EEE vs. Mini 9

I have a Mini 9. It's foolish to buy anything but the base model, unless you want the webcam. Remove two screws, pop off the rear cover, and the memory, SSD, and wireless card are all right there. Takes maybe 5 minutes to upgrade the memory, a bit longer to change the SSD. Mine has been upgraded...

And that doesn't count the four of these, two of these, and two of these. Oh yeah, and this with one of these running a Celeron-M 520. Yeesh, I better get going.

Mini ITX board choices are blooming

The CPU on the ECS is a Shelton core, basically a cache-less Banias Pentium-M. Very low power, performance pretty much equal to a PIII at the same speed. I have one in this mini-system. I've also had the socket 479 version of the ECS board, but paid a hell of a lot more. Decent board, very...

Why did you pick your Anandtech SN?

First IT contract job, it was the machine name for the new Dells we were rolling out. When I saw it, I exclaimed loudly "What the hell is a wide fault?" Then it was explained it was WI Default, as in Wisconsin Default. There were other machine images named ildefault, nydefault, and vadefault for...

question about old P3 duallie boards, Intel chipsets

Neither GX nor BX natively support the 133MHz bus. There were some with limited overclocking that would allow it, but it also overclocks the AGP from 66 to ~88MHz and some ran PCI at 44MHz. The bad thing about the Thunder 2500 and most older Serverworks boards is the IDE was pretty lackluster...

Drove a 1978 Chevy Malibu station wagon through college and still miss it to this day. 305ci, 2bbl carb, automatic, metallic brown with bright orange wheels. Nvidia's <$45 processing platform

Pretty sure the LX is a mild tweak of the Geode GX, which is a renamed Cyrix MediaGX. Performance on the GX is about equal to a Pentium-MMX at 2/3 the speed. I don't think the LX is much better, the biggest changes were in the supporting chipset and memory.

I've got a mini-ITX quad setup waiting for an idea right now. I might use it to build a media server box, something to store and rip DVDs and mp3s. Embedded PC's

The C3 Via chips are about the same performance as a PIII at 2/3 the clock speed. So the 1.5GHz C3 is at best equivalent to a PIII 1GHz. The C7 is better, but still slower than the same clock speed PIII. The board Zap linked above is very lower power, about 25 watts average. The Via boards...

Shuttle's new $199 KPC Linux box (or $99 barebones)

Case seems larger than it needs to be, but at the same time looks like it'd be easy enough to mod it to fit an optical drive. Looks like a regular Shuttle with a solid faceplate, wonder if the internals are changed at all?

    booting from flash devices

I don't think you can do one card for boot, others in RAID. With the flash cards I have, I haven't been able to install XP successfully with only one card. Haven't tried anything else, since my goal is to get an XP system running. You can do 2 RAID arrays, but that will screw performance up...

That's about the best you can do, although it might be easier to find the power brick somewhere else. Intel D201GLY2 is a cheap starting point. Mini-ITX, 1.2GHz Core2-based Celeron, SATA, very low power, etc. Board is about $75, should be trivial to get a system going for under $300 using one of these.
