I'm curious to just how much BF4 is an outlier compared to other modern titles (like Batman:AO, Tomb Raider, etc)? Have any of the major sites benched the RAM usage in other titles?
You should call the GTX 780Ti what it is: the bell cow card from nVidia. It's going to carry a stiff penalty (in cost) to wear the single-fastest crown. They have no intention of targeting the budget inclined buyer at the $500+ range and they know name-brand (rightfully earned?) goes a long...
Personally I don't think 1080p and image quality are mutually exclusive. In order to spot the differences between MSAA and SSAA you essentially have to compare screenshots. The fact is 2-3GB of vram is going to be completely sufficient for 95%+ of gamers.
Completely agree with you once you...
.. if gaming @1440p (27" monitor) with all settings at max (including an expensive SSAA). Based on the Guru3D link, it appears that even 2GB is adequate for most people. Though I'd agree a 3GB would be a better buy for future proofing.
How disappointing. I've been waiting to pull the trigger on a $400-$500 card and was hoping the 290 would fill that gap. A week delay + an indeterminate amount of time waiting on AIB solutions means I'll be picking up a 780 to satisfy my BF4 needs.
My personal needs aside, if they can bring...
Any chance the release will line up with their (nVidia's) Holiday bundle tomorrow? I figure they will want to drop the 780Ti before the R9 290 reviews crop up on Thursday. Plus the 28th seemed like an odd date at the time they announced it.
I'd argue it's hard to refute rumor and unverified screenshots that are supplied as fact.
Also, seems a little hypocritical to call someone out for making personal attacks and turn around and do it yourself. Been reading AT for a long time and I think this sub has hit a low.
In my current setup I have a GTX 570. Served me well over the years but it's time to move up. And to me that's the most aggravating part of this launch. While the 290/290x haven't been "delayed" in the truest sense of the word, AMD has really botched the launch in regards to BF4 - a sequel to...
Decided to roll-back to Windows 7. For what it's worth it appears that the HDHomerunPrime works well on Win8.
Love the interface but XBMC can't display any cable stream that's encrypted - which is basically everything at this point. Additionally, it won't work with my existing extenders.
VC reports that the 290x NDA comes off on the 24th @ 12:01 - not very surprising. What I find boggling is that the NDA for the R9 290 won't be lifted until the 31st??
I have a Windows 8.1 Pro laptop provided to me via my employer running a legitimate license via Volume Licencing. Generally works fine but when I went to add Windows Media Center (I have a HDHomeRun Prime) I discovered that the VL (Volume Licensing) versions of Windows 8.x are not eligible for...
It's terribly worded, but you should probably go back and re-read that quote:
Theres not much more I can say at this point, except that I have several cards tested at 3840x2160, and R9 290X doesnt just do well against the GeForce GTX 780
I think you're reading that as "just doesn't"...
Just assuming that the expected price of $650 for the 290x is accurate, do timelines matter if it offers the same performance as the current $1000 card? Isn't that how most technology works? Insanely expensive (think large screen LCD TVs a decade ago) at the initial offering and then lowered as...
When you have nothing in rebuttal, attack the person not the message eh? How about offering some counter points.
I've been using nVidia hardware since the late 90s and I'm considering AMD for a build later this month due to the price/performance factor. I'm not sure why I should be phased...
Typically I'm your average user/gamer. Outside of the storage dance I've had to do with games (128GB fills so quickly) I don't do much heavy lifting.
Do you think something in the middle - such as the Crucial M4 - would provide noticeable difference from the 840?
I currently have an older 128GB Vertex 2 SSD attached to me X58-base motherboard. It does fine for what it is but with prices dropping I'd like to upgrade to a 256GB drive. I'm going to pick up a SATA3 SSD but wasn't sure about spending the premium for something like the Samsung 840 Pro...
I use a full 101 for both work and play and have absolutely no issues with my 'arms being too far apart'. What are you, an oompa-loompa? T-rex? ;)
As for the look, not everyone is a fan of that minimalistic-1980s IBM keyboard vibe (Ducky, Filcos, etc). This might go to the other extreme...
My predictions:
1) nVidia fanboys will point out that the GTX580 is faster than the 6970 in the majority of tests, ignoring the price difference between the two cards.
2) AMD fanboys will point to the 1 test that shows the 6970 is marginally faster than the GTX580 and champion it as proof...
I've been using my 8800 GTS 640 for a while now and it's showing it's age when trying to leverage both of my monitors (24" + 20", soon to be 2x 24"). I'm looking to upgrade over the holiday with a budget of around $350 - so a 560/570/6950/6970 will likely be in my future depending on price and...
Just a heads-up, the Sapphire 5970 is currently $470 AR @ NewEgg for those interested. Looks like their stock of 580s is getting a little thin, but you can still grab one for ~$520; cheaper at other places like Tiger Direct.
This forum has gone to the dogs.
The quote is almost exactly what apoppin posted here. Everything after said Chris Hook and his crack spinner team is speculation by Fuad and has been incorrectly presented as fact by the OP.
Agreed. Nor do I think the large majority cares about relative performance to the previous gen (or 1/2 gen, or whatever.) They walk (logon) to their favorite store, cash (credit) in hand, and buy a card based on their budget range.
Do you mean the slide or the text? Because the slide simply indicates that the 6950/6970 will continue to hold that slot in Q1 2011. Just as it shows that the 6850/6870 will continue to hold that performance slot in Q1 2011.
If you're referring to the text, well I'm too lazy to throw it in to...
I feel the delay is certainly a "win" for nVidia; 4+ more weeks for the GTX580 to be without a peer - in the single card/single chip space - has to help. There's currently a pretty large gap in the lower-level enthusiast ($300-$400 range) and I think the vendor who can fill that spot first...
VR Zone piece on what might be causing the (slight?) delay - a component produced by TI in short supply. Not commenting on the validity of the report, but figured it was appropriate for the thread...
