We book a hotel room, they give it away, craziness ensues

As others have pointed out: without a credit card (or a significant cash deposit if the hotel even allows that) on file, you did not have the room. Most hotels don't charge your card until checkout although I've been in a few that need you to reconcil your bill every two weeks. Often times they...

    Got a job offer today

We have quarterly reviews (mini reviews really) prior to someone leaving for an inspection trip. Its mainly just to check to see that reports have been written and were sent out, all of the upcoming trip paperwork was done, etc. The paperwork from that (2 pages of stuff) is used in the yearly...

    Negotiating Your FIRST Salary

These are engineering fields. Its actually working in civil engineering (construction materials) but we hire mostly mechanical engineers. So much of this depends upon the company itself and unless you have gone on an extensive interview with them, you really won't know enough about the...

    Negotiating Your FIRST Salary

We have had two people try to negotiate a higher starting salary. The offers were revoked and we moved to the next candidate that we liked. It really depends upon the job, the candidate, the company, and the job market. My company does not negotiate starting salaries. Whether the offer is...

How are income limits determined when applying for state sponsered mortgage loans?

I would suggest going and getting a preapproval from a mortgage company that offers these programs and talk to them. Then you know what you can afford (I wouldn't go for more than 80% of what they offer) and they can give you the pros and cons of all the programs.

Is the traffic on I-90 in South Dakota pretty light?

I would not get into yellowstone last in the afternoon/early evening and expect to find a room or camp site without reservations. Everytime I've gone to Yellowstone, the campsites were full before suppertime and some of them were filled by 3. Just a heads up.

how are convex rear view mirrors not standard equipment on vehicles?

Because the side mirrors serve multiple purposes. Having that type of rearview mirror only serves one of those functions and at a reduced capacity. Side mirrors are used for looking in your blind spots, helping you park, helping you backup, and allowing you to see when your vehicle is...

I'm 18 and need to rent a car.

Be aware that dropping off a rental car in a different city usually has a large penalty fee. A Uhaul will probably be your cheaper and easier bet. The only thing you can do is call various places and find out.

Why do electrical wiring colors have to be so complicated?

Doesn't this have to do with color recognition? Red and black are difficult to tell apart when using certain color flashlights. Also the most common type of color blindness involves red. The move away from red could stem from that.

woo hoo Im a home owner...finally

Is this a DIY or hiring a pro? If pro, give a few a call and see if someone will come out to look and let you know. Without knowing the code in your area, I'm not sure what we can tell you. Issue number one is heater is in the attic which means you need to force all of the hot air down.

Hiding my wires for my LCD TV... is it this easy?

Grommet aroudn the holes and get a cover for it to help cut down on any drafts and possibly bugs coming through the wall. It all depends upon how the wall (mostly the outside wall) is built.

Why don't other colleges charge $240.00 tuition for full time students?

State subsidizing of education will break even if you know the graduates are going to stay in the state to pay for the future students. It doesn't however help if those students leave for another state so they can avoid paying the higher taxes.

Leaky roof- Water getting in behind Step flashing and Jchannel?!

Just to point out that a townhouse is not the same as a condo. HOA are usually not restonsible for repairs on a unit. (Note: HOAs for townhouses are a fraction of the HOAs for a condo.) I would talk to your neighbor. Its his wood that is rotting and he needs to take care of it. Usually you...

For people to really complain about sometihng, you have to hit a critical mass of complainers which requires a popular products (AKA a lot of users). But with that said, anytime you have a product that is designed with form over function, you will have a lot of complaints when said form is...

SO I was just reading about the Treo with Windows Mobile

You should look at the Treo 680 for the price and not for the functionality. There are several features that are standard on the 600, 650, and 700p series that are not on the 680 including support for high speed data. It is designed as a low end smartphone for the masses and not high end users...

SO I was just reading about the Treo with Windows Mobile

I have a 700p and love it. I would suggest getting a sideways belt holster for it rather than trying to put it in your pocket. Pocket carrying works if you have pants with large pockets but I never could get it to sit comfortably with a pair of jeans. As long as you are in an evdo area, wifi...

Best SmartPhone to Edit Word Documents &/or Visio

The Treo 700p can edit the word documents but I do not know of anything that handles visio. Odd thing with Docs to Go (which is what comes on the Treo) is it can handle txt and doc files but can't handle rtf. Go figure.

Hmm, Tax Manager just called me into her office

Ask how much the benefits package is worth and how many hours you would be expected to work. I recently had two people leave for better paying jobs and they are both unemployed as the increase in work hours did not match the increase in pay and reduction in vacation time. Things to consider.
