Darwin visits the gun nutter community yet again

I find it quite remarkable that no one seems to be bothered, that a kid is using a human shaped target for this, in itself, disturbing activity. Perhaps an elementary school for professional disposal services could be a profitable venue. All the free publicity - world wide...intriguing

What is so good about manufacturing?

Without reading everything, the importance of manufacturing is really quite simple: it's a world its own. Manufacturing requires a multitude of services which means without manufacturing a whole lot of services are not need unless these services can be provide abroad where manufacturing is...

Margaret Thatcher, U.K.'s leading defender of capitalism passed away.

Sorry to hijack the thread but i hyve to reply to this. As far ss I know, as of now Germany is a member of the EU. Therefore Gwrmany csnt possibly "tariff the shit" out of incoming stuff any more than every member of the EU, since such matters are not within Germanies authority. If that was the...

For those who disagree with how the Bin Laden affair was handled...

It is always easy to point out better ways of doing things - afterwards. And if the other way was actually better would still be speculation only. There is just one thing that could have been done better, where the result of that better way was obvious before going that route: The little...

For US citizens: International law vs. Constitution.

I am sorry I have to correct you before someone belives this BS. Noone can legally stop you from talking about Nazi Germany - period. Illegal is: to parade around with the Nazi flag, raising your right arm to a "Heil" and shouting "concentration camps did not exsist". But that is not...

Americans - Most Productive Workers in teh World

If dollaramount generated per hour is the definition of productivity, then it doesnt say much. especially not when comparing different brands or industries let alone countries. Example: a gold mine mines gold. Lets say, by some market magic (like a new important technology demanding vast...

How long has your computer been on?

Well thats a matter of perspective: from WIkipedia:Coal power plants obtain approximately 2.0 kW-h [Electricity] per kg of burned coal. Using your example and assuming that you actually need the computer about 1/3 of those 24h then that means turning it off saves almost half a ton of coal...

Would you pay 1.5k-2k extra for a house with a central vac?

That sound like a huge waste in electricity. Afaik the power reauirements to keep the suction the same, increase with the length of the tubing. So a central vacuum would need alot more power to do the same as a normal vacuum. I would rather invest in something for the future - better...

What kind of cooking range is better? Gas or electric?

Electric, best would be induction The only advantage of gas is the faster control times. Otherwise gas is just a waste - most of the heat goes (in the form of hot air) around the pan heating the surroundings. Our new flat has gas And I badly want my Ceran back. Ohn and gas stoves are a pita...

    Travelling in Europe

Most German cities are fairly small by American standards both in area and inhabitants, so it is definately feasable to explore them by bike. China's 270MPH Maglev Train.

Um no, it depends on the principle used. The Transrapid (the one used in China) does not use wheels, it levitates the whole time, even when standing still. For emergencies there are batteries on board, which are also used for all internal power requirements at low speed, because the induction...

On Automatic Transmission do you save gas shifting to neutral at stop signs?

Why don't more cars use diesel if it's the superior fuel?

Well yes I guess you can - but not for cars. Ships basically run on crude - well heavy oil - almost tar - kinda the leftovers of crude refining
  31. B

Why don't more cars use diesel if it's the superior fuel?

Afaik it doesnt work like that. The refining of crude oil gives a whole range of products from heavy oil to light gas - and all of them have their uses. It is not like here is a liter of oil now we make a liter of gas out of it.
