My girlfriend has an HP laptop and paid the extra amount for the accidental damage protection coverage. They have very good support and send you pre-paid Fed Ex boxes so that you can send whatever back.

Hi Paragon,
ktop is what you are looking for. So you're running KDE 2.2 eh? I just installed Mandrake 8.2 on my machine and upgraded KDE to 3.0.2. I'm putting together a how-to to drive KDE up to this version for Mandrake 8.2 machines. Check out bajaar.com in a couple of hours.

I sway back and forth all the time... Can't ever figure out which one to stay with; Gentoo, Red Hat, Mandrake. Mandrake 8.2 I prefer for a fast distro to get onto a computer. KDE packages are designed for Mandrake. The KDE folks do not like Red Hat so much though.

Gentoo Linux on one box. Red Hat 7.1 on another. Both of them rock-solid. On the Red Hat box, am running :
Exim
Cyrus
Apache
PostgreSQL
mySQL
Samba (as a PDC)

gentoo is *not* that difficult to install.. it just seems that way because if you printed out the installation process, it's like 14 pages long. It's just a bunch of rudimentary steps and you learn a lot in the process!
once you install it, everything is smooth sailings onward. and if you get...
enter gentoo (what I'm running right now)
gentoo rocks. but it's not for weenies. With a portage system where in order to install the latest version of KDE you type "emerge kde", you can't go wrong in worrying about recursive dependency issues because it does it all for you.
The downside...
The question that i have is, how do you get Open BeOS to run... *can* it be run? I would love to try this thing out if it's just mature enough to be tested...

i'm trying out gentoo linux right now... apparently the kde3 ports are out for that so i'm hoping to have a speedy kde setup after about 2 days of downloading and compiling and general setup.
anybody else using gentoo? www.gentoo.org

The fact that Microsoft would want to "compete" with Mono would prove that Microsoft is concerned that Linux is a major threat to Windows.
de Icaza has some pretty good ideas as to how to fight Microsoft. I believe that it comes from a pseudo-"if you can't beat 'em, join 'em" philosophy...
It's worth your time.
The .Net framework is being mimicked in the Mono projected headed by de Icaza of Ximian, Evolution, Gnumeric, Gimp fame. He's got his head screwed on straight and has some good focused ideas on what makes a good solution.
With Microsoft pushing .Net applications and...
here's a challenge (but maybe worth it)
PostgreSQL hosting is not offered everywhere.. and it could set you apart from all the other hosting providers... I know I'd buy from you in a flash if Postgresql hosting were an option and be willing
to put down 10 to 20 bucks a month to have this...
what version of mandrake do you have? I'm pretty sure that 8.0 and 8.1 *need* to be re-compiled for ntfs support even though they say they have it "out of the box"
if it's ntfs, you're going to have to re-compile your kernel for ntfs read support... i'm guessing this is the case since it should recognize fat32 partitions without any problems.

There is so much confusion about Linux on the Business Desktop that I feel like writing a paper that explores a holistic approach to integrating Linux workstations into a Windows environment.
It's a systems administrator's responsibility to make sure their users are comfortable on the...
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that Lindows will go mainstream in due time.
I'm on a Gnome-based Linux box right now. It's awesome. It's got fantastic integration and learns your file formats and associations without any major problems.
I'm using Ximian Evolution 1.0.1 for my...
don't use IIS ftp service because it sucks. get warftp from www.jgaa.com and use that... so much more power and well written.
just some friendly advice

If MS rewrites their license, they're asking for it from the U.S. Gov.
What we'll probably see is lots and lots of businesses migrating to Lindows from Windows. It minimizes training costs and allows users to familiarize themselves with the OS without many problems.
