    Future iPods should have...

A decent battery solution. As much as I like (and use) Apple's computers, I won't touch the iPod until it comes with a replaceable battery.

I bought a Lide 35 which was perfect for my use. Thank you for all the input!

Need a scanner: but how good does it have to be?

Thank you! It's nice to know that someone out there is happy with their flatbed scanner. I find myself reading these tests where they put a flatbed up against a film scanner, and even I can see the difference.

Need a scanner: but how good does it have to be?

I've tried searching the web for this one, but it seems to be a long shot. I recently bought a Leica Minilux (which I love), and I would like to put some of the photos on my web site. So - I need a scanner. I would also like to scan some old family photos, purely for backup purposes. I will...

    Cheap computer: socket A/Sempron or 478/Celeron D

I've been reading up a lot the last day, and it seems like the Celeron is a good choice. I'm a Mac man myself (don't shoot!), but my computer at work is a P4 2.4, and the fastest Celeron D's looks like they actually rival that CPU. Well, that is good enough for me.

Any other points of view from the evening crowd?

    Cheap computer: socket A/Sempron or 478/Celeron D

Yes, the Celeron D actually seems to be half decent. And I'm pretty sure that my sister wouldn't notice difference.

    Cheap computer: socket A/Sempron or 478/Celeron D

So, I guess some of you might recognize this situation: Sister: ?Can you buuild me a computer?? Me: ?Mmm, what do you need it for?? Sister: ?Uh, email, office and stuff? Me: ?How much money have you got?? Sister: ?Nothing. Well, a couple of hundred? Me: ?I?ll see what I can do? There...

    Rate my COMP!!

10/10!!! It's the best one out there! No need to upgrade for a couple of years. You might want to use some crayons on the mobo, though - the color is really boring.

    Building a budget computer

Sorry, I forgot to write that the prices include all the other parts that I need: - harddrive - midi tower - DVD-player The rest (monitor, keyboard, fans, mouse, etc) I already have. The variables in this equation is the CPU/mobo combination.

    Building a budget computer

I'm building my sister a new system for christmas, and I've managed to narrow it down, so that I'm left with a few options. She would only use it for email, web browing, Office and some photo editing. I live in Norway, so the prices might be different from what you're used to, but I think...

Sempron vs. Celeron vs. P4 vs. aaarghhhhh

Thank you all for your fast response! So how does the Athlon stack up against the Sempron? I guess the extra cache would mean some extra oomph?

Sempron vs. Celeron vs. P4 vs. aaarghhhhh

My dear old sister has been struggling with my old, but magnificent AMD K6-300 for the last 2 years. This christmas I thought I ought to reward her, and get her a new PC. Since I'm not really @that* wealthy, I will have to settle for second (or third) best and build a budget computer. I've...

    Powerbook G4 vs. Centrino 1.6GHz

Well, I did listen to some music (streaming), but I cant say I noticed any major differences between the machines.

    Powerbook G4 vs. Centrino 1.6GHz

Yes, I set the machine to high performance, but for most of the time, I was running this machine plugged in.
  17. S

    Powerbook G4 vs. Centrino 1.6GHz

Yup. I wouldn't have had any problems at all keeping the Powerbook if the Macromedia suite was performing adequately. But to me, right now, picking up a $2000 (actually it's more like $2700 here in Norway) laptop that doesn't do what I need it to do, would be rather foolish. I could go with...

    Powerbook G4 vs. Centrino 1.6GHz

A friend of mine has the 8600. I can tell you straight up the HP is better looking. If I'm not wrong the 8600 is about 10mm thicker as well. It sure feels like a big lump. But this is only my opinion.

    Powerbook G4 vs. Centrino 1.6GHz

    Hi, I don't want to start a fight here, but I've been fortunate enough to have had two laptops this last week. 1) 15" Powerbook: 1.33GHz, 768MB RAM, Radeon 9700 64MB, 80GB HD - 5400 rpm) 2) HP zt3131: 15" display, 1.6GHz P-M, 512 MB, Radeon 9200 64MB, 60GB HD - 4200 rpm) And I've been...

    IBook or Powerbook?

All depends. What will you be using it for? Writing papers and watching movies? Go with the iBook. Anything more demanding I would suggest a Powerbook. The prices are actually quite good right now. Oh,and I presume you've decided against a "PC" (ie. a Windows/Linux based machine)

    Dell 8600 v. 9100 v. Apple Powerbook

Try to have a look at the 9100 before making your mind up. A friend of mine bought it, and it's got that whole plastic thing going. To be honest, it looked like my girlfriends three year old Toshiba. This might mean nothing to you. In that case go ahead and get it, it's as fast as they come.

    "Downgrading" my video card

Well, this surely is an odd question... I'm giving my sister my old PC. The highlight of this machine is a Radeon 9500 Pro video card with 128MB RAM. The rest is based around an old 1.3GHz T-bird. So far, so good. But here is the thing. A friend's friend is willing to buy that video card for...

Help me fight Microsoft Exchange at work!

Well, Outlook Web Access is little more than a crap webmail client. It feels like I'm using a ten year old version of chinese Hotmail or something. My desired outcome would be to be able to use a standard email client like Thunderbird, but that seems to be far off. swanky

Help me fight Microsoft Exchange at work!

So, today was the day... We started using Microsoft Exchange at work, and basically this means I can not access my email from home (since I don't use Outlook). When I asked my boss why we couldn't keep on using an ordinary email system, she more or less challenged me to come up with why...

Have anyone tried the new iBook G4 or the 12" PowerBook?

OK, I've tried asking this question at some of the Apple forums around, but they all say that every apple machine is God's gift to the human race. But my situation is this: I need a laptop for work, and the iBook looks like a good deal, considering the price and weight. Mostly I would need it...

Should I sell my Radeon 9500 PRO?

Hi, now this is a dilemma... I've just ordered the new parts for my "Project Upgrade": - Barton 2500+ - Abit NF7-S v2.0 - Corsair TWINX512-3200LL DDR-DIMM 512MB (2x256MB) I already have a Connect3D Radeon 9500Pro (128MB), and I thought I should stick with that for a while longer. But now it...

Looking for a cheap upgrade of my T-bird rig

My mobo supports the XP1800, but that hardly seems worthwhile. After all, wouldn't that be just a temporary upgrade? I've looked into the Barton XP2500, and at the price it seems like wuite a bargain. About the RAM - PC2700, PC3200, PC3500 - what's the best choice? Thank you for your fast...

Looking for a cheap upgrade of my T-bird rig

Hi, lately I've noticed that my rig has started to slow down. This doesn't surprise me as it is over two years old. At the heart I have: - Athlon T-bird 1,33 GHz - 256 MB SDRAM - MSI K7T Turbo mobo (133 MHz) - Western Digital, 40GB HD (7200 rpm) - Radeon 9500 Pro (128 MB) I bought the video...

Small digital camera needed for complete idiot (read: me)

Well, it looks like Canon's the way ahead! I checked out the specs on the A70, and it isn't as large as I thought it would be. I imagined it would be *huge* compared to the Ixus. Thank you, all. I'll check them out. swanky

Help me decide: Dell Latitude C400 vs. 12" Powerbook

    Hi, I need/want a notebook, and would prefer a 12" fully featured one (DVD/Combo). Since I live in Norway, I don't have a lot of options. Just two actually... Dell Latitude C400: - 1.2GHz PIII - 512MB RAM - 30GB HD - Combo drive - integrated graphics (Intel 830M) Apple Powerbook 12": - G4...

Talk me out of buying an Apple

I get new licences at work if I switch to Mac, so that's no problem. And I've heard it shouldn't be a problem sharing files between a "PC"-PC and a Mac. But I would love some low price alternatives from the PC world, but they seem to busy making those 15" laptops...:( Thank you all for your...

Talk me out of buying an Apple

Yep, all these are valid points. I've tried to ask around on the MacNN forum, but they just rave on about how good the PowerBooks are. And coming from the "PC world" I know for a fact that speed counts (up to a certain point). And Centrino sounds like a good idea, but out of the current models...
