You need to keep a lookout for the 2-for-1's. They don't happen too often and they don't always have a large selection for the sale. A few weeks ago they had over 1000 titles in the 2-for-1...it was good times!

The lens is a "standard" lens - the lens that has approximately the same field-of-view as the human eye. The "49" is the size of the filter thread on the lens. If you were to get filters for the lens, you would get 49mm filters...

Having lived in Venice (born & raised!), the Valley for a few years and Vegas for seven years, I'd say Vegas is the best of your options. Vegas was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better in the first half of the 90's, but it's still acceptable now for somebody who is used to the whole LA way of life.

Same thing happened with me. When I bought my RAV4 earlier this year I put $9k on a 0% card and paid the remainder with cash. Although I have over $100k in available CC debt, the $9k caused my score to go down about 20 pts. I don't see where using less than 10% of your available limit is that bad.
Getting a card is the first step. After that, the length of the history will improve the score and the debt/credit ratio will affect the score depending on how "loaded" she keeps the card.
