I have a 500gb 960 pro nvme system drive and 3 8tb storage drives. I would like to add a 2tb intel 660p in the second m2 slot. I think it should work with the avail SATA sockets I have.
Am I correct? Anything I need to know to set this up? thanks
Dave
After 14 months my Corsair 280mm h115i cooler started getting real loud with what sounds like hard drive seeking clicking, and sometimes squealing sounds. I contacted Corsair when i saw i had a 5 year warrsnty and they sent me a h115pro rgb to replace.
They said it was an upgrade but i dont...
Nice fans, glad you found something. I'm late to the discussion but I'll just mention i put two ek Vardar140er on my corsair h115 and they work well and quiet. Plus they are black :)
Thanks for the suggestions. And yes it was a great feeling seeing how thrilled my grandson was. I did install some games for him, Witcher 3, a Tomb Raider game, Dirt Rally, I'll look for the ones you suggest :)
Thanks. Got it up and running yesterday. Wouldn't power up at first so I ran back to Fry's and returned the Corsair refurb PSU. A drag because it was modular the Thermaltake I got to replace isn't and it's tough to deal with the wiring in this case. Not really sure even if it was the PS, but...
They are pretty much silent and very cool temps. I'm sure you get great temps with the stock fans too. I had an H60 in my Sandy Bridge system and the stock fans were very loud. I replaced them and didn't consider using the stock fans this time. I never ran the stock so I can't really say for...
I haven't tried manually overclocking mine yet. Probably this weekend. But I did run it on the autotune 29% overclock for a week at 4.7 ran great. I stress tested it with prime 95 for 5 min or so and it only went up to about 40 C as I recal.
I briefly tried the high autotune yesterday which...
Thanks again all. I'll be getting the video card today. The PC arrived Saturday and - surprise - it's in a very small desktop case. So a full height card won't fit.. The board, cpu, and stock intel cooler are in real good shape and Windows 7 was freshly installed and runs very well on the...
Thanks everyone and yes I see that the 1050 I saw at $129 was the 2 gb model and I figured I'd get him the better one so I ordered the 4 gb 1050 ti. I will get it Monday from Newegg...
Hi, My son in law is bringing me a computer he got from work and asking me to set it up for my 8 year old grandson. I have seen a picture of the mb, and screenshot of the specs so I know its a Gigabyte ga-z77mx-d3h with a 2500k in it and 8 gb RAM.
I know computers but I don't use video...
Speaking of testing, I havent done any other than watching my temps as I ran a repair operation with WinRar that would heat up my Sandy Bridge system. My 8700k did the operation in a bit less than half the time with temps rising only to 40 for a briief second, most of the time around 35-38.
I...
yeah the 280mm cooler is really something. Haven't run any stress tests but my temps are very cool. I just repaired an archive in Quickpar tonight which is the operation that always overheats my cpu. The fans were running at 975 rpm, I can't hear them and my cpu never went over 40.
Haven't...
yeah, red with that green, complementary colors, looks awesome! You've got a similar system to mine I just finished. Mine's not flashy like yours though. I do love the cooler though. I was researching fans for my H115 aio becaue I've always hought the Corsair fans too loud. I learned of EK and...
I have an h115 Corsair that I put a couple Vardar fans on and it's working great so far though I havent pushed it.
I'll try the MCE tomorrow, thanks.
I had tried one of the EZ overclocks and it says overclocked 29%, so around 4.0 Anyway, I tried another video archive on my Sandy Bridge...
OK I've got a question. How can I set up a modest OC on my MaximusX Hero, 8700k? I have only enabled XMP so far but would like to try my cpu around 4.5. I've run my Sandy Bridge system stock and processed a WinRar archive the other night that took over 80 minutes. I would like to run the...
What I got for that purpose is this (usb 3.1 gen 2):
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01E80N2E8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
the optane drive I wanted to try but availability was scarce and price above retail, so I went with a 960 pro which is great, though I may get the 280 gb...
OK a little more progress. I looked up in my manual and learned where to find the XMP profile, I selected it and restarted and my Gskill Trident Z is now running at it's rated 3600 speed :) I havent tried any other overclocking yet I need to make sure I know what I'm doing. I'd be grateful...
I'm done with my build too. It had a few complications - one was that the mounting holes for the 280 mm radiator on the front of my define r5 dont line up. I was able to attach two screws at the bottom and two in the middle but then the top two were off by 3/16ths or so. Actually felt pretty...
.
No gpu but thanks ozzy. You were on track with the first suggestion the PSU cables! I think I'm getting this and I'll report back in a bit if it works :)
yes thank you. You know, this is a little embarrasing, but remember this is the first system I've built in 7 years! I had failed to...
problem. Ok I finished build but system will not start up. Can you guys offer me suggestions of what to check? the board lights up, Maximus Hero. but the start button does nothing, no fans come on no beep. thanks
ok i fiddled with connections and now when I press start button one of my fans...
I got my new system together this weekend for the most part but I noticed I don't have an hdmi input on my monitor which is odd because it's newer than my Sandy bridge which does have hdmi, along with dvi which is how its hooked up.
I ordered an hdmi to dvi cable from Amazon which will be here...
OK, got all mty stuff now except for the EK Vardar 140mm black fans that I will use on my radiator. I'll have them next week so I'll either take it slow putting this together or probably just swap out the stock Corsaifr fans when they arrive.
I had hoped to use on new Optane ssd as the system...
Just got my 8700k from B&H, along with the hgst 8tb drive. Expect my motherboadr tomorrow, case, ssd, and cooler Friday so I'll be all set. got my RAM yesterday and bought power supply a few months ago when on sale.
I'll start my build on Saturday. I have very limited experience with...
yeah I got the instock notice from NewEgg today but out of stock by the time I got home. I'm kinda glad I decided on the 960 Pro. got it at a real good price and no tax. I'll probably add an Optane drive in six months or so when prices settle down.
I used the equivalent of the Prime in my Sandy bridge system and it has been a good board. I did go with the Hero this time as I think it has better quality capacitors, better cooling/heatsinks, and I like the audio system. It's cheaper here though ~280
yes one of the versions was avail for pre-order for a couple days I think one of the U.2
Anyway, just didn't work for me as I need my drive by friday :) Please let us know when you receive and how it goes.
Well all are out of stock at NewEgg, so I decided to go ahead and order the 960 pro 512. I plan to put my system together on Saturday and I'll have the Samsung Friday.
I can always add an optane drive later on :)
I received a couple links with info about the Optane drives in an email from the Intel tech support guy I spoke to this morning. Here's the user guide:
https://www.intel.com/content/dam/support/us/en/documents/memory-and-storage/enthusiast-ssds/Intel_Optane_900P_InstallationGuide.pdf...
Yeah I'm seriously considering also I'll be building my new system this weekend. I've been thinking of just going with the Samsung 960 that I had originally planned.
I called both NewEgg and Intel to try to get some guidance which version to use and they couldn't help, they day I should ask...

Another nice system! Paper launch my a** :)
Oh and I decided to go ahead and orderthe Corsair h115i cooler. It will fit either up front or on top of the Fractal case so I'll make it work. Also ordered 2 EK Vardar 140 EVO black fans for it as I remember how loud the corsair fan was on...
Very nice! And similarly, I got shipment notice the other day from B&H that my 8700k will arrive Wednesday, so I've been ordering parts and my build is set other than I'm going to wait till I can take a look at how I configure the drives in my r5 case. I'm probably going to use a Corsair h115...
