To me the battery life is the 2nd consideration. The 1st is CPU temperture. Under-volting can keep the CPU run at a lower temperture even full speed. The program I use is RightMark CPU Clock Utility. Same concept.

Best Wireless Optical Notebook Mouse

Will I noticed big improvement in 7K60 over 40GB 5400 for NON-INTENSIVE user

When I ordered my Dell D505, I only asked for a 30G 4200rpm HD. The minute I got the laptop, I pull it out and put in the 7K60. Sell the 30G on auction site. Even you are not a game player, you will still be benefit from the speed.

Dothan engineering sample

Now I have a chance to buy a Dothan 2.1GHz engineering sample for only $280. Compare with the retail price, this is a real bargain. My question is besides its "non-mass production" status, should I worry about the reliability? This CPU is for my laptop, I don't intend to o/c.

Can this laptop accept a 2.0 Dothan?

Last week I installed a Dothan 2.1G for my Dell Latitude D505. It's quite easy because Dell has all the technical documents on the web for reference. But generally speaking, it's not easy to take laptop and replace the CPU.

Latest Atheros wireless driver

The latest driver I can find is: Driver: 3.3.0.156 Utility: 3.1.3.10 The driver dated July 2004. Is there any new one available? It's been 6 months already, I assume Atheros would have updated driver for the wireless product.

Main & AUX connectors on the miniPCI card

Found out the answer by myself. The Main is used for both transmission and reception. The AUX is used for only reception only. So it has to connect exactly like the instruction suggested.

8mb cache vs 2mb cache .. 60gb 4200rpm - Will I notice much difference?

For a 4200rpm HD, the user can't feel the benefit of the larger cache size. If it's I in your situation, I'd keep the 2MB HD if the whole process is going to be more than 1 week.

Intel vs. Atheros wireless

If you plan to use Linux, then you are better off with Atheros. Because simply more people are working on Atheros Linux driver than Intel. As for under WinXP, my experience is both Atheros a/b/g and Intel b/g is equally good. Don't know about Intel a.

Dell p3-500 laptop=> 'i' key doesnt work unless i bang it HARD

I don't think there is a better way besides replacing it. Check eBay, you should be able to find the keyboard for your laptop for less than $30. And its fairly easy to put the new one in.

Dell 600M VS Latitude D600

The D600 is the commercial model. Gerenally speaking, it should be better than 600m (consumer model). My feeling toward D600 is quite good. Robust quality, simple design, I will recommend it. As for the 7200rpm HD, definitely worth the extra cost. And it doesn't generate to much heat...

Which of these 2 laptop HDD's do you recommend?

There are reviews compare Hitachi & Toshiba 40G 5400rpm 2.5" HD. Hitachi performs better than Toshiba even with only half of the cache memory. Probably because Toshiba firmware is not optimized. If this happened on 7200rpm model, then Hitachi still keeps the crown.

Opinions on the Dell Latitude D400 laptop?

All new lapops of my company are D400. Besides the small screen, all are good. The real battery life is around 3.5 hours assuming you set to the maximum battery life in WinXP Power Options.
