dual channel operation

Hi, From what I gathered reading, to operate in dual channel mode, a memory module has to be installed in separate memory channels for the motherboard? So for dual channel operation with 4 slots with memory channel A in slots 1,2 and channel B in 3,4, for dual channel operation with 2 DIMMs...

Maxtor Diamondmax 10 250GB SATA bootup

Hmm, i've not been keeping up with hardware for the past year, but it is SATA but i'm not OC'd. I"m on a Athlon64 3200+ with a Chaintech VNF4 ultra. I'm not sure what a locked port for SATA is, I will google it to see if i find anything. THanks.

I have the harddrive in my title i bought in july, and for some weird reason, whenenver I boot up windows xp, sometimes it gets past the windows loading screen with the progress bar at near the middle/bottom of the screen within a minute, other times it will sit there for about 5-6 minutes...

I am running my computer behind a linksys wireless b router that says it has a hardware firewall built into it. Is it pretty safe to run my host computer w/o a software firewall if the router already is running a hardware firewall? Thanks

I just bought this OEM and from the reviews I have read it is supposed to be decently silent and Anand had it rec'd on his June midrange buyers guide...It is silent when idle but during accesses, the hd is pretty audible and I can hear the whirring sound. It sounds like if someone was stepping...

I have a chaintech vnf4 ultra running a amd64 processor, and in addition to the 24pin power connector on the mobo, there is a 4 pin square power connector. Is this the 12V connector? I thought that was for Intel P4's only. Obviously it's required b/c it won't boot up unless I connect it, but...

This is pretty basic but I never figured it out and I can't find it detailed on any other post here...The fan that is on a heat sink on a cpu or gpu...is the fan supposed to be blowing cool air ONTO the heat sink or is it supposed to be taking hot air AWAY from it? ie., what direction should...

benchmarks on a radeon 8500

Just some things out of the way.. AMD 1800XP on Win2k.. 4x agp and 128MB aperture size in bios...fast write enabled.. I have an Epox 8k7a and anand used a 8kha+...I believe i read the performance difference b/t the two isnt too much I have the newest drivers and am not waiting for vertical...

Wanst sure if this belonged in the OS forum or not so I just put it in the generic general forum...I'm getting windows ME on cd full version for my new comp and i'm also getting 512MB pc2100 ram. I've heard that winME really wont have a noticeable increase in performance from 256 to 512MB...

black 17in monitor

I've looked for a good flat panel 17in black monitor and I've come up with two in the 200-250 price range...do any of you have or have seen the samsung 700ift and/or the viewsonic e70fb? That's the two I have to choose between, but if anyone knows of any others, plese let me know, thanks.

gf3 upgrade from tnt1?

I'm about to finally get started on my new system(i think :\) and I would like your opinions on whether a gf3 will last me 2 years about...My current card is a tnt1 and I've had that for about two years and it could play decently all games up til recently pretty fine, just with not all maxed out...

msi and epox questions again...

does changing the fsb that much affect the other components like the pci cards and vid cards? Also, if it does, are there any divider options in the bios to bring pci ang agp bus speeds back down to what they need to be(33 and 66 right?..). Or am i totally off and don't need to worry about...
