It seems I just had a data loss problem with my old rounded cables. I was running Serious Sam 2, and saved games suddenly wouldn't load anymore. In fact, starting the game would immediately crash my system. I reinstalled the game and my video drivers, but my system still crashed...

UPDATE: I went with the GladiatorXP cables for my two IDE drives. I read some reviews of them last night, and they are indeed made right. I decided against a GladiatorXP FDD cable, because I don't want that 50cm thing snaking all over the place in my mATX case. Since I hardly use floppies...

How much memory do I need?

Thanks, everyone. 512MB it is. The KM400 is already in the case ready to go, so that'll be my new mobo. I won't bother upgrading until I can take advantage of new-fangled stuff like PCI Express.

Connecting IDE drives

Thanks for the tech advice. Since I have two free IDE ports, I'll just give the CD-RW drive its own channel and sidestep the whole IDT thing.

Question about ATA33 device on same IDE chain as ATA66 device

I'm about to buy a CD-RW, but I'm not sure how to arrange the IDE connection. The manufacturer, Acer, suggests that the CD-RW be set as the CD-ROM or DVD's slave. My DVD drive is ATA66, but the CD-RW is ATA33. If I set the DVD as master and CD-RW as its slave, will it cause a problem or...

Can't get Winamp to associate with CD's

Thanks, 4824guy. I found a solution on the 'Net, and it seems like a longer version of your suggestion. I had to go to Settings/Folder Options/File Types and point Audio CD to winamp.exe, then remove sfsiren.exe. That did the trick. I'll keep your tip in mind for future file association...
