Wow... haven't posted on here for an awfully long time...
My project manager has really landed me in it by dumping an e-commerce project in my lap at the last minute. I need to choose an appropriate server-side application, but could do with some advice from you guys.
Ideally it'll run on...
Hi there,
I am looking for some help software that does the following things:
browser based help with search functionality that works offline
server based management for master help content
auto update of local content on connection to the internet
easy authoring of content for clueless...
Hi there,
I just persuaded my boss to let me upgrade my crappy old work PC from Win2K to XP Pro. I backed up everything I needed to, then ran the setup disk (fully legal XP Pro upgrade edition).
I deleted the existing partition fine, then created a new one and ran a quick NTFS format on...
Hey there,
I've got an Nforce3 board (MSI K8N Platinum) at the moment and want to know if when the dual cope 939 athlons come out they will work on my board, or will I need an Nforce4?
Something that's kept me wondering for a while. What would happen if a stray thermonuclear missle detonated on Jupiter?
I understand that because of Jupiter's size and density it is unable to support a sustained fusion reaction in it's core, so we won't end up with another sun on our hands...
I have a Dell Inspiron 8600 Centrino notebook, with a 1.7Ghz Pentium-M. However, in Control Panel - System it says it is 1400Mhz, and then underneath 585Mhz!
What the hell is going on? I know the Pentium-M has some advanced clock throttling technology to save power but it's plugged into the...
Hi there,
I'm trying to find a full specification for the ATX case standard, measurements, requirements etc...
I've been searching about but haven't found what I need - any ideas?
It definately seems to be connected to running on an Athlon 64 - which SUCKS. I eventually got my GT to run after buying th same Neo2 Platinum and 3200+ but I think I'm one of the lucky ones for whom fast writes disabling worked. Good luck finding a solution.
You seem to know what you're doing. Sounds good. If you're overclocking (and why wouldn't you be with that CPU) you might prefer the popular MSI Neo2 board, and I would STRONGLY recommend a decent 350W+ PSU. If you're buying a new PSU it's worth spending a few extra quid and getting one you can...
This may be unrelated but I also found that when trying to overclock I couldn't push my FSB more that 5Mhz over default without it becoming unstable. I know overclocking is never guraneteed but this seems an extremely low amount of headroom.
I've just built a new system:
MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum
A64 3200+ (Winchester)
Galaxy 6800 GT
1Gb (2x512Mb) OCZ Platinum (not rev2)
I keep having problems in games where the action simply freezes for a few seconds then carries on. Very smooth performance otherwise. I'm trying to pinpoint...
I've been using Norton 2003 for ages now, but I'm tired of the way it slows the system down so much. I upgraded to 2004 but found that even worse (everytime the little box popped up telling me my system was waiting for a scan to finish I wanted to kill someone).
I'm thinking it may be time...
Damn I'm angry.
I downloaded a file today from bittorrent, and despite the usual virus checks it turned out to contain a trojan that put a file called svhost.exe in sys32 and then connected to an irc server. I duly noted the IP and connected to the server, to find it's personally owned by some...
The image was made by disk recovery software specifically to preserve the entire original drive - the image is the full size of the original disk and includes a copy of every byte originally there.
Hmm - so far the advice has been honest if not very cheering. I still believe this is possible...
A problem with a new soundcard caused me to reformat my system. Normally I keep everything safely on another drive to the system partition but I'd foolishly left some data on my desktop.
I have since reformatted (only a quick format) the partition and re-installed WinXP.
Here are my thoughts...
Actually, I got the system to work fine, it was far simpler than I originally expected to get an un-encrypted connection with internet sharing and the the works. Unfortunately what I DIDN'T get working was encryption - the belkin software sucks and the manuals are worse.
I've seen somewhere that there are ways to share a net connection over wireless without having to have a hub or access point. I've got a laptop running WinME with a PCMCIA 802.11a card, and a PC with cable internet and a PCI 802.11b card. How can I beam the cable internet to my laptop?
Normally I'd agree, except the reason I have the Antec PSU in the first place is because it's virtually silent, something pretty desirable in an audio PC. F**king thing. I mailed Antec tech support but they for reasons best known to themselves decided to ignore it.
Yep - I've rebuilt the whole machine now, and with the exception of the PSU nothing is different, yet it works perfectly.
There must be some clever bod out there who has a notion of how a PSU can cause that kind of problem. Was it sending too much power to a particular line? Who knows.
