Should I wait for dual-core AMDs?

I have a non overclocked northwood 3.2 ghz with 2 GB of ram. it multitasks great!. I can without effort play a game while having dc++ running (uses loads of resources since I have a really fast connection), burning a cd and doing some encoding. Ya need lots of ram though to make it happen. I...

The celeron 2.0 will happily overclock to probably around 3 ghz if i need it. the 2.4 can't underclock if I should need it though since it's already runnign the lowest available bus speed.

Quad gpu's!

dguy.. most ppl consider 300$ too much to spend on a gfx card without considering ppl who don't as idiots. Some ppl just have loads more money than do others. So let them spend that money, pay sales tax etc. I'm unfortunately not one of those ppl. Hope to be though :)

Was just thinking.. with dual gpu boards coming soon.. why don't they sli that! ? :) Just imagine a quad 6800 ultra setup :D Ofcourse that would require probably 600W+ of psu power. :)

My Xp Moible 2600+ @ 2.7Ghz

I'm sure his system feels really fast. I had a t-bred @ 2,4 ghz before and it felt as fast or faster than the p4 3,2 ghz I'm using now.

yes default Vcore is 1.4 Volts.. And it's never exactly that.. som boards undervolt.. some overvolt.

What ralf said U will want a fat heat sink so you can run it passively.. Ofcourse you could probably fidn a solution with the dfi board too.. but it would probably be trickier.

athlon 64: why is it's poor multitasking ignored/downplayed?

CaiNaM .. hey there!.. The Athlon xp (thoroughbred or barton cores) don't have more bandwidth than the a64!. Yes the nforce 2 is dual channel, but the athlon xp only has a single channel itself.. So most of that bandwidth is wasted if not used with on board gfx.

hey Mech.. I never said Intel is without faults. I'm just saying that the system I have now works flawlessly and setup was a breeze. As opposed to the two years of hell with the nf2 board(s) I had. Thanks for the tip, I'll try that when sp2 is released for swedish language.

Personally my experience is that Intel has more balanced and refined chipsets than do AMD. My most recent experience with this was with a P4C 3.2 ghz, an abit IC7G mobo and a Creative Audigy 2 ZS soundcard. I upgraded from An Athlon XP, Abit NF7-S 2.0 Mobo and I used internal Soundstorm Audio...

Hey Sahakiel Thanx for the long reply. I still believe though that today it wouldn't be at all impossible to design a low end on chip solution today. And if we had everything on chip we would get a lot of "bang for the buck".. chip real estate wise. I still believe it's a great idea. :D
